  • Dave Reynolds- Offense by BU below average

    Offense by BU below average

    Dave says this-
Brooks would claim the final available scholarship as of now. But considering the Braves are losing bigs like Tyshon Pickett and Jordan Prosser and none of the impending newcomers is a big, it seems likely another game-ready frontcourt player would be needed.

Does everyone agree? I have been saying for 3 years that we need to recruit more shooter. And Dave quotes these abysmal shooting and offensive statistics-
BU is 9th out of the 10 MVC in scoring at 70.9 ppg
BU is 10th in 3-point shooting at 29.4%
    BU is 7th in FG% at 46.0%
    BU is 8th is FT% at 69.9%
BU is 9th in assists at 10.9 apg

We expected the shooting to be much better this season with the addition of better outside shooters in Omari Grier and Stefan Zecevic, yet despite the mostly poor competition, we are significantly worse than last year. I have heard from many fans that they want to see better shooters.

Has Dave Reynolds forgotten that we do have a highly touted BIG MAN coming in next year -
a guy who was ranked Top 50 nationally, who Dave has said would be a STARTER in the Big Ten right now,
and who got a long article about him in the Hoops section even tho he's not even dressed and playing this season?
      Mike Shaw.

Geno sorta labelled Shaw as Tyshon's replacement
"Losing Tyshon (Pickett), there will be some tangible stats Mike will have to produce for our program.
But we're really confident he'll fill that void nicely."

I can't wait to see him play - Geno says if we get him the ball he'll score four times out of five...

BTW - as noted elsewhere - our offense has been near or at the bottom of the MVC in everyone one of those same categories
for the past two years as well....this is going on THREE years now so why is DR only now noticing it?
When Geno first got here - multiple column said his offense was "blazing", fast paced, offensively minded,
that scoring would go up but not at the expense of giving up more points.
Plus there was this quote (2011):
"Defensively, the Braves will eventually play like the Flashes - constant pressure from half to full court."

...have we ever seen constant pressure or a full court defense? We are said to be very deep with quality depth & talent at every position - why not press?
It turned a 13 pt deficit into a 2-pt deficit in a heartbeat last night - it can work!
