1) what is IUPUI's nickname?
2) what is their mascot & what is their mascot's name?
3) when did they become a NCAA Division I member?
4) what was their team nickname before that?
5) do you think they should go the next step and change the "IUPUI" designation?
Answers - mouse over to read...
1) they are the IUPUI Jaguars
2) their mascot is of course a Jaguar - and his name is Jinx the Jaguar
3) they became a D-I school in 1998
4) up 'til they became D-I they were the IUPUI Metros but they changed to Jaguars in 1998 as part of their new D-I marketing
5) many people agree - IUPUI is familiar only to people in and around Indiana and if you go very far away and say "IUPUI" the immediate response is always "what or where is that?" or "is it pronounced "ooey-pooey"?"
BUT for now there's no plans to change - along the lines of what Southwest Missouri State did when changing to Missouri State, what ISU did to eliminate the "Normal Teachers College" from their name, or what "Northeast Missouri State" did in changing to "Truman State" so people would stop with the incessant "where's NEMO" jokes...
but maybe we could offer some suggestions like Jaguar State or Indianapolis State University or IndyState!
