    recruit

oh! So it was a statement out of frustration! I think the statement should have been we need to recruit shooters.. Not, he does not know how to recruit.. Geno has been doing this a lot longer than any of the coaches on th message board.. WE NEED MORE SHOOTERS PERIOD.

We need a point guard and a big man too. I would take a point guard first.

Everything starts with a true point guard.

We had a pure shooter in our back yard last year and Geno didn't want him in the Peters kid.

I think we need to see how the season plays out. This was a very bad loss for sure...now we'll see what kind of team we are. Will we bounce back or lay down?...if this season regresses from last year and next year is more of the same then I don't know if you give him the 5th year...but there are a lot of games left so we'll see what happens.

I have seen a few fans expecting better things to come next year and the following year, and I have been very optimisitc myself about the recruits we signed so far (Thomas, Sutherland, Brooks) and the returning players.
But, what I am now a little concerned about is that maybe we saw a glimpse last night of what this team could be like next year without Walt. Without better shooters, we will be seeing zone defenses most of the time, and it really stymied us last night. I don't see that changing next year.
I wasn't there last night but I think it was more about how Walt handled himself than anything....that is on Walt.....

I think that's where Sutherland comes in

what we have seen lately is that we have coaches in sports where they finished dead last in the MVC in their fifth season after four previous bad seasons of saying "give him five years"...and only if they were a holdover coach did they get fired - otherwise they still got contract extensions

                    Wake-up call

I think you need only reflect on what's been happening for the past few seasons of off-court behavior from both the men's and women's program to see that there are issues, and in the end it comes down to leadership.

There are rules, and they are being violated and, yes I understand this happens with plenty of other schools/programs, but this is a smaller school and you can't hide what's going on from the students. It's only when the infractions become public and need to be "spun" that we are finding out about them. If you came in to the men's game early and caught a few minutes of the women's game last night you had to wonder, "why are there only seven suited up?" They only have 10 on the roster??¦a D 1 program??¦with 10 players? Two are supposedly hurt, and the other is serving an academic violation, much like Prosser.

Watching the men warm up last night, you could look at IUPUI with their nine players compared to our busload, and assume that BU would prevail. Unfortunately, that's the way BU played, with an almost lackadaisical attitude, assuming they would win.

Recent history, there was Egolf, and his drug bust, and Butts with her assault of a team mate and being excused from the team. How do things get that bad? Where is the leadership cracking down on these student athletes who are getting their education entirely paid for? You want more students to come out and support BU athletes, well maybe the athletes should take their scholarships more serious and shouldn't be out doing shots at frat parties two nights before a game, or cheating on their class work. It all starts at the top and rolls down.

Previous players dismissed, and only 7 players dressed for the women's team and no reasons given? Multiple suspensions and players taken out of their starting spots on the men's team, and no specific reasons revealed? Now allegations of attending shot parties 2 nights before a game by someone in the know?
I do not understand the difference. It seems player rules and disciplinary issues were handled much differently just a few years ago with PJ Star editorials demanding stronger punishment of student-athletes, labeling coaches as "renegade", and administration responding to the bad press with secondary disciplinary actions directed by higher ups. It even seems like those earlier issues even helped lead to the dismissal of the AD and coaches.
Now we've gone back to keeping everything quiet, no explanations are given for suspensions, the press never looks into the issues like they felt was their duty before, and we hope they go away. But they are not.

For which suspension this year were you expecting an explanation? I thought Will's suspension last year was pretty clearly explained.

Frankly there's no need for anyone but Prosser and the coaching staff to know. Personally, I do know what happened, and it's nobody's business.

Why no mention of Barnes' discipline?
Why nothing about the women players?

And for the record, I also know about all these issues, but wonder why it is kept secretive, when intimate details of issues regarding Will, Ruffin, Theron Wilson, Tyrone Cole-Scott, and others were blasted all over the front pages of the newspaper in the past?

yeah - when discipline issues surfaced in the past we had endless coverage on page 1 and allegations of even more ominous problems, labels of "renegade program.."
Now with Barnes, there's not even a mention - even tho this has to be the 12th or 13th different player suspension or disciplinary issue - and they can't blame someone from the past
