I hope everyone had a happy Thanksgiving! The Braves are back home for three of their next four, beginning Saturday night against Texas-Pan American. Here are the pregame notes: http://www.bradleybraves.com/ViewArt...CLID=209326298
Of particular note, the Braves once again will be wearing the Central Illinois Strong t-shirts in recognition of the ongoing tornado relief efforts in the area. A limited number of the shirts will be on sale ($10) Saturday night in the PCC Great Hall lobby and the Bradley Merchandise cart with all proceeds to benefit the Central Illinois chapter of the American Red Cross for the tornado relief efforts.Bradley Associate AD for Communications and Operations

nice effort - but if you get a T-shirt - don't neglect to give any extra $$ directly to the relief effort...
The Red Cross
The Salvation Army
add'l independent site
plus a number of other local private groups and churches are also helping
Here's the independent relief fund that Jim Thome just gave to:
Morton Community Bank, c/o the city of Washington Tornado Relief Fund, 721 West Jackson Street, Morton IL 61550.

Walt played a good game and "carried" us - even tho I wish we didn't have to have someone carry us against such a bad opponent.
Walt 26 pts, 6 asst.
As we have been seeing we got virtually zero off the bench - Bell hit a couple shots late but other than that Xzavier Taylor and Jordan Prosser each had a single point.
Blake had 11 rebs but simply cannot score, SZ has been relegated to Alwan-playing time.
Smallest civic Center crowd I have ever seen - and it is indeed the smallest crowd since mid-70's barring Ren-Col & the snow game - attendance 5898 - is that amazing or what? Hey - if all my kids weren't home from college forcing me to buy extra tix, it would have even been substantially less!!
Student section was great - both of them -- seriously there were a grand total of two kids in the student section but they were the best dancers
What crowd was there was quiet and the band was anemic
They shot 33% overall and 11% from the arc - and yet with about 11 minutes left, they rallied to get back within 8 and had our bench up and active
As badly as UTPA played - and they did NOT score a basket until 13:11, and they still had only 8 pts at 8:09!!! Then they didn't break 40 'til 6:56 left in the entire game - we should have put them away and led by 25-30 by early in the 2nd half.

A win is a win. But Geno did not seem pleased with our defense and rebounding (UTPA had 16 offensive rebounds). It will be interesting to hear his post-game comments. But despite the cheerleading by the press and some fans, this is not as good a team as we are being told (depth, athleticism, talent, recruiting all improved?). What happens if we lose to one of these 300+ RPI teams?
Attendance was posted as 5,898- indeed the lowest attendance figure in the modern Bradley era, and possibly the smallest since the Armory days, and a lot of those were no-shows.

Game story from BradleyBraves.com-
PEORIA, Ill. -- Bradley senior guard Walt Lemon, Jr. scored 26 points and the host Braves shot 65.2 percent (15-23) from the field in the second half en route to a 74-54 win against UTPA Saturday.
Box score-
FTR, I thought Ka'Darryl Bell was great off the bench tonight- 10 points, and 3 rebounds. No other bench player got a basket or a rebound! (exept Zezevic's 2 rebounds in the last minute of garbage time, and Mason Alwan's last minute basket). How do Prosser, Taylor, Swopshire, and everyone else off the bench fail to get a single basket or a single rebound in a game where there were plenty of them?

I would've been there (first game I've missed this year), but I had family thanksgiving meal going on. Anyway, I'm glad that we won, and it sounds like Walt played a good game, but I'm disappointed that we played a team we were so much better than. UTPA is not a very good team based on what I can tell. I know this team is going to have some growing pains, but I'd rather we have them against somewhat quality opponents. Playing these cupcakes is not getting us ready for the Valley season.
I can say that the small crowd can be explained as the students being on a break for Thanksgiving, a lot of local fans out of town for the holiday weekend, and combined with the terrible opponent. I expect that Wisconsin, Milwaukee will draw a better crowd next weekend.
