  • Chicago State -- 2 Questions about Game

Hopefully, none of this controversial -- I was at the game and apparently missed / misunderstood a couple of things.

    1) In the 1st half, there was a double foul called on a BU and CS player pushing and shoving each other trailing the ball down the court when CS had it. I saw it and it was the right call but I thought possession went with the arrow and the arrow was pointing Bradley's way...is that not the case? The ball was awarded to CS.

    2) I had no idea that Lemon got a technical until the radio post game show -- I watched the whole game - there wasn't any technical shots I don't think. Did I blackout? When was it?

    Thanks.

The technical was part of a shoving match (that was pretty minor and I think the refs truly overreacted) between Walt & Chicago State's Clarke Rosenberg, right after Walt committed personal foul #4.

Since the technical came immediately after Walt picked up his 4th personal foul - it added a 5th to his total (technicals on players add one to his personal foul total) and he had to sit down with five.

The announcement about Walt getting the technical was made briefly while fans were booing the call so I am sure many missed it.......
..but the PA announcer (Paul Herzog) did not ever mention that Walt thus had fouled out - it was left for the fans to figure that out -
since he'd have been heading to the bench after getting his 4th anyway.

I am sure if Dave Snell didn't mention the "T" it was obviously because he has to do the talking on the play-by-play while the PA guys makes announcements, so he missed when Herzog announced the technical on Walt.
Someone in his camp should have alerted him.

The Chicago State head coach Tracy Dildy stomped his feet and asked one of the refs come over & clarify whether Lemon was disqualified - which the ref did confirm -

So, in addition to a lot of the fans likely not knowing Walt was disqualified on 5 fouls - also some of the guys at the scorer's table didn't know it, the PA guy didn't know it and thus the entire radio audience didn't know it either.

As for the double foul in the first half- here's what I think - had it happened on a dead ball - it goes to the possession arrow - but if it happens during play - then play resumes with possession intact.

Smell and Kleine knew right away what was happening. They were right on the call.
