I know we'll get arguments but let's get the talk started..

we're early but the Missouri Valley (9-5 against D-I opponents) is off to a slow start with a couple bad losses (Tenn. Tech, Ohio, Drexel) and ranks #21 in Conference RPI.
The conference SOS is almost last among D-I conferences - but one good point - Bradley at 3-0 is 4th best RPI in the MVC
Hopefully that'll change soon...for the better...

RPI 7 days into a season is literally useless. SoS 7 days into a season is beyond worthless. In fact, even looking at SoS in the first week is actively harmful. Our SoS (and RPI) for example is literally worthless because all our teams are playing each other in the tournament setup. Teams that played teams with only 1 game so far this season have either a perfect SoS or a zero SoS.

The 9-5 record is a fair talking point, though. Except that UNI losing to Ohio on the road isn't a bad loss.

I know it's early and has minimal impact, it is what it is - and had we won those games that we lost then the RPI would be way better - the West Coast Conference is 19-1 and thus obviously has a way better RPI
Losing and scheduling weak teams are the things that drop your RPI - while of course winning and scheduling good teams helps it
If you schedule mediocre teams and lose anyway - it's a double whammy

If this team keeps progressing as it has been over the first 3 games, 6th place is not acceptable, barring injury. 2nd or 3rd is possible.

Except I don't think Ohio and Drexel are mediocre teams (I think Drexel will be a lot better this year, to be fair).

By the way, good point - the WCC is having an excellent start to the season. They may be better this season. But that's because they're well above average, not because the Valley is slipping.

all use their own formula and thus they differ a bit depending on how recently updated...yet all are somewhat similar

We're behind the SWAC because of SoS - the SWAC loses to everyone, so all their opponents have great records right now, which means a higher RPI. Once those teams play more non-SWAC opponents, their record comes down, and so does the SWAC.

Again, citing conference RPI one week into a season is completely asinine.

That said, this isn't a good start for the Valley. Overall record is much more worth focusing on.

The fact that 2 sites are 7 spots apart says all you need to know at CRPI this early in the year.

But the MVC SOS rank of 22 so far is a bit concerning. It needs to get a lot better, and it will starting today with MVC beginning to play better teams, like today's schedule (BU vs. UI, InSU vs. UND, and ISU vs. NW).

Just to illustrate how wacky RPI is this early, MVC is now #4, with the #3 SoS.

Just like #22 CRPI didn't last, #4 CRPI isn't going to last more than a day or two. Pretty funny. Pointless, but funny.
