  • BU vs UIUC

Since I'm not on the team, I'm allowed to look past the next opponent and on to Sunday's game. I'd like for us to come away with a win in the worst way, but I'd like to hear some of the thoughts out there on what the keys are to give us a chance.
    Compete. Defend. Rebound. Win.

I expect us to be competitive. What's the line?

we should be able to play with Illinois unless all the new players get flustered playing on the road for the first time...but Arizona State has been blowing teams out by 30-40 pts
...and I cannot find where anyone has posted a line on this game yet - probably means nobody's putting down any money yet...

Watching the Illinois and Valpo game, there is no doubt in my mind we can out play Illinois. Valpo with not a very athletic team stuck right with them on the boards. With watching the game, I think that lemon and rice will be a great match up. Lemon clearly more athletic, faster, and quicker. Should shut him down. We put Bell/Fields on Arbram's should be able to shut him down. We all know ekey cant play against Bradley we watch him be a little sissy every year we played him. Egwu is Egwu. He is just a big guy who takes an hour to do one post move. Now Bertrand may be a little problem with not to many people to guard him, there maybe a little zone played by geno this sunday. I feel like we go in with a chip on a shoulder and pull one out. Im for sure Illinois fans are looking past us. LETS MAKE THE ILLINI FANS SHUT UP!

I agree with the zone idea. Illinois has struggled from the three pt line.

What are the TV options for this? Can anyone speak with authority on this?

Coach Ford joined the Tay and J Show this afternoon on ESPN Radio 93.5 and talked about Sunday's game vs. Illinois, Mike Shaw and his brother, U of I assistant Dustin Ford.

The best part of the interview though was when Coach Ford was asked about Mike Shaw. Coach Ford responded by saying "Mike Shaw completed our Player to be Named Later Trade for Sammy Maniscalco."

Geno had nothing but good things to say about Coach Groce, and a couple of former Valley players in Ray Rice and John Ekey.

Not looking past Fridays game.... but I'm really excited for Sunday and hope WLJ and company are ready to put on a good showing against the Illini.

Link to podcast below if anyone wants to take a listen.

Our schedule says it's on the Big Ten Network. But the Comcast listings show that it is not. I think an Indiana game is listed on the BT Network at that time.
I don't know of any other TV options.
It would be nice to hear an answer from the Bradley people.

I think this is going to be a really good game. Illinois, in my opinion, doesn't have very good bigs, so if we are able to take advantage of that by out rebounding and out scoring them in the post, I feel we will be okay in that game. But it's always hard to play teams in their own building, and we haven't played a road game yet, so it will be interesting to watch and see where we are compared to some decent competition. I would be thrilled with a win, but I would feel pretty good about the team if we lose in a close game. I'm excited.

On Direct TV on the Big Ten Network it lists Stony Brook vs. Indiana starting at 4:00. They list 4 other Big Ten Network channels and they all have "To Be Announced" listed so it's possible the game might air on one of those channels. I don't see the game listed on any of my Direct TV channels, which would be disappointing. So far the Illini haven't shot the ball well but have really rebounded it, especially off their missed shots. I always liked Rice at Drake and Ekey, while not big with stats always seems to do the little glue things that helps teams win. Egwu is a small forward in a centers body so our bigs need to take it right to him. Groce's teams always push the fast break so we really have to take better care of the ball than we have so far. I think we have a good chance to win but how the new guys react to their first road game will be key. Both teams have some really good athletes so I expect an up tempo game. Should be fun and a good harbinger of where we're at as a team.

Last time we played Illinois in Vegas, bu hosted a watching party in the student center. I'm a little surprised we aren't hearing about someone stepping forward to make something happen to this end.
