  • 2014 BU recruit- Lincoln College's Aaron Simpson

Aaron Simpson was a high scoring guard for North Chicago HS and was recruited a bit by Geno Ford, who eventually passed on him after Ka'Darryl Bell committed. He eventually committed to Illinois State, though he did not qualify and ended up at D2 juco Lincoln College. He was one of the top scoring players in D2 juco last year averaging over 20 ppg, though he still has not gotten much interest from college recruiters. But that might change this year. In their first 2 games, Simpson has scored 40 & 41 points in Lincoln's first 2 games, despite a lot of double teaming. I know Bradley's coaches have been looking at him again, but he is just 5'10, a little small for a shooting guard. But I recall another shooting guard Booker Woodfox, who a lot of schools passed on before Dana Altman offered him a scholarship after all his other choices went elsewhere. Woodfox went on to become MVC POY and lead Creighton to 22 win and 27 win seasons.

I think a guy who can score from the perimeter is just what we need. But if he keeps scoring like he has been so far this year, he'll eventually get more offers.

SIU Head Coach Barry Hinson watched Aaron Simpson play last night, and seems very interested in him. Southern Mississippi also was present to watch him play. Lincoln College (a D2 juco) knocked off Lincoln Trail (D1) last night 81-76. Aaron Simpson was averaging over 40 ppg going into last night's game.

part of the lack of interest in Aaron Simpson - is his height.

Simpson has been reported as 5-11, 6-0, and even 6-1...

but his coach says he is only 5-9 and 145 lbs .

he had 18 in his last outing to drop his average to 29ppg, as he was named the NJCAA DII National Player of the Week

BTW - the NJCAA DI Juco National Player of the Week is a kid from Malcolm X juco in Chicago - Jovany Austin, who is averaging 29ppg, and an astounding 15.3 rebounds per game!
His numbers put him 5th nationally among all juco players in scoring, 2nd in rebounding, and 1st in offensive rebounds (8.3 per game) and 11th in blocks (3.3/gm)
Malcolm X College is where ex-BU assistant Willie Scott has connections - he was the recent head coach there - sounds similar to Josh Cunningham...

I don't know how the scholarships will shake out for us next year but I would like to see Aaron playing for the Braves next year (even though he originally committed to the enemy). The kid can SCORE!

We have seen recently just how important a shooter can be with the emergence of Mason Alwan. He doesn't even need to score a lot, it just changes the dynamics of the opponents' defenses.

We all remember Booker Woodfox. He was a 6' shooting guard, who signed real late with Creighton in 2007 when he came out of San Jacinto junior college. Creighton was his only D1 offer, and they only offered him when another guard they really wanted, Tyrone Cole-Scott, decided to come to Bradley. Woodfox was a great shooter and went on to become the MVC Player of the Year.

nice article on Aaron Simpson -- Bradley is "coming hard" at Simpson, but he has not been in contact with ISU

something interesting might be happening with Lincoln College's Aaron Simpson...
After a number of great games - he has suddenly "disappeared"...
I don't mean disappeared on the court - but after scoring 20 in Lincoln's Jan. 29th game, he has not been seen since --
not only has he not played but he hasn't even reportedly been with the team the past 3 games... no word from team as to what's up

Not sure what happened to Simpson, but he played last night scoring 27 off the bench in a win.
