In Jacksonville State's two exhibition games (both close games), they have shot 11-40 from 3-pt range, just 27.5%...

and they have been outrebounded by their D-II/NAIA opponents in those two games....84-77..
despite having one player (newcomer DJ Felder) who has grabbed 26 rebounds in his first two outings as a D-I player after transferring from juco.

Plus - in their two games they are only 38-61 on FT's - 62%
Only four of their bench players have scored at all - and only one of them has hit more than a single basket in either game - so they don't go very deep with their scoring.

One way in which they are a lot like us is a lot of newcomers...more than Bradley has.
They return 3 of their top five scorers but lose a large amount of their minutes played...almost 60%

They currently have four freshmen and five juco transfers who will be playing their first D-I game (Moore, Mitchem, Smith, Kuligoski, Laing, Watson, Felder, Clemmons, Hunter)..and several of those guys performed well in their exhibitions. Felder, Mitchem, & Hunter were starters.

..plus one player who played two years ago at JSU, then left & went to a juco and is now back (White) & two guys who only played minimally the last 2 years before redshirting (Louder, McReynolds).

We need to be physical - and do not allow them to score in the paint since that's the only place they are proficient - and if we put them on the line, they shouldn't hurt us too bad there -
plus - we cannot allow them to out-rebound - they didn't out-rebound their D-II opponent.

Ready to tip off. Small crowd here. Josh Cunningham was late leaving Chicago and supposed to get here at 7pm. Obadiah Church and several other recruits already here.

Good to see all three freshmen score in the first half. Barnes and Grier are also on the board for newcomers. Hopefully Fields and Blake can get a bucket too. Haven't been super impressed with Fields yet, but can see some athleticism watching him. With Walt having a bad half and a couple of lazy turnovers and still having a lead that's not bad. But we should be doing much better, TP has been awesome! I like Bell's defense too when he was in, and Grier showed a nice ability to get to the foul line for a guy known for his shooting ability.

Overall I like a lot of things I saw and see great potential. The dumb mistakes that cancelled out the good things are all fixable mental errors. But we have to be consistent and should be up a lot more than we are against this team.

I thought we got better as the game wore on and finished pretty strong. Good to see we can score some when Walt is off, which he was in the first half.

Nice to see the students in large numbers!

Bradley struggled with Walt Lemon having an off game (6-20 from the field, 16 points). But Tyshon came through with a solid game (15 points, 10 rebounds), and Omari Grier had a good game (17 points, 3-6 from three). Auston Barnes added 11 points, 5 rebounds.
59 of Bradley's 72 points were scored by those 4 starters, and only 13 points came from the bench. Hopefully, the bench production will improve.

A win is a win - so I guess we can be happy but we need to play a bit better....
Final 72-65 but this game was a 2 pt game in the final few minutes...we need a little run and couple couple steals to feel safe on a night when Walt struggled (6-20)

I still note that four starters played 2/3 of the minutes & scored 86% of the points - not my definition of depth...
depth has to be more than just putting bodies in the game - they have to contribute.

The announced attendance was said to be 7209.

Really how many players played in tonights game? I liked what i seen off the bench tonight as far as bodies and players who have tools to be coached in to roles to help this team win some games and as the year plays out this team will improve with coaching and support from the fans. Why do you keep nit picking this team? What i saw tonight was a lot of athletic long players who have a tremendous amount of upside. It has been long time since you could say that about a Bradley team. Tell me that Barnes, Blake, Greier, Fields, Taylor, Swoopshire, Zecevic did'nt at least look like guys that could bring something to the table and make a team competitive over the course of the year. We played 11 people tonight.. CMON MAN!!
