Bradley plays their second and final exhibition game Saturday, Nov. 2 at 1:00 PM at the Carver Arena downtown against the West Virginia Wesleyan College Bobcats.
WVWC is a private NCAA Division II school in Buckhannon, West Virginia that is older than Bradley University (they were founded in 1890). They have about 1,400 students. They are coached by Patrick Beilein, who was the Director of Basketball Operations at Bradley for 1 year under Geno Ford from May, 2011 until he was named head coach at WVWU in May, 2012.
WVWC men's basketball website-
This will be the first and only exhibition game of the 2013-14 season for WVWC.
WVWC schedule-
In his first year, Beilein's team went 12-15, and 9-13 in their conference (the West Virginia Intercollegiate Athletic Conference). The WVIAC was a very old conference dating back to 1924, and which included West Virginia University at one time, but it dissolved after last season. West Virginia Wesleyan College is now a member of the new Mountain East Conference, which started operation on September 1, 2013.
Beilein lost 3 key starters from last year's team- their top scorer and rebounder Kelsey Williams (21.5 ppg & 10.9 rpg) who graduated, and they lost 2 other starters, another senior who graduated, and a freshman Noah Cottrill (former 4-star recruit who signed initially with West Virginia University but never played for them), who was their 2nd leading scorer (12.9 ppg) and was named to the conference All Freshman team, who did not return this year. He transferred to Georgetown College in Kentucky (an NAIA school) this year.
My guess for who might start for them:
But they return 2 regular starters from last year-
Raymond Warren, a 5'9" senior point guard who averaged 6.3 ppg and 5.3 apg last year, and T.J. Thompson, a 6'5" guard who averaged 11.2 ppg in only 16 games played.
And one other returning player started a few games last year, Soren Dossing, a 6'1" sophomore guard from Denmark who averaged 7.6 ppg last year.
They have several other young guards, all of whom will likely see some action.
Their roster only lists 4 forwards on this year's team, so it seems likely a couple of them will start, and all will probably see action.
Brett Ervin is a senior transfer from Elon University, and Austin Shell is a 6'5" junior forward who transferred from a small junior college in Michigan. Their other 2 forwards are sophomore Tanner McGrew and junior Taylor Price, both of whom averaged only a little over 2 ppg last year.
WVWC Roster-
One other note- Patrick Beilein is slowly building a pretty good team at WVWC. He had a great freshman class last year, and along with the recruits he's brought in this year, they will develop into a nice team. And he has already signed a very good player for the class of 2014-
