After denying waivers to several transfers who appeared to transfer for legitimate reasons (i.e. Ahmad Starks at Illinois), and who fulfilled the NCAA's own guidelines for getting a waiver allowing them to play immediately, the NCAA continues to be inconsistent with their waiver decisions.
Today the NCAA granted a waiver to Joseph Young, who transferred from Houston to Oregon. He is a very good played who will really help Dana Altman's Oregon team contend in the Pac-12, and probably be a Top 20 team. But he is from Houston! And he left the University of Houston because they re-assigned his father to a lower level job (he had been hired as Director of Basketball Operations). And by transferring to Oregon, he is moving over 2,000 miles away from home.
Previously, CBSSports had called this a longshot, since he appears not to meet any of the criteria the NCAA has set for such waivers.
