  • SIU's All Century Team

SIU is holding a fan vote for their All Century team..

52 players have been nominated for the 25 sports on the team...

One factor that always goes with these fan votes for all-time teams is that extremely few people
actually ever saw the older guys so many past greats won't get the votes the newer guys get...but who would YOU vote for??

Here are the TOP 10 guys from their list that I would vote for...and I clearly favored a lot of the older guys who definitely deserve the nod...

    Darren Brooks
    Chris Carr
    Walt Frazier
    Dick Garrett
    Mike Glenn
Nate Hawthorne (played in the NBA early 70's)
    Troy Hudson
    Joe C. Meriweather
    Bryan Mullins
    Charlie Vaughn

    Hon Mention: Wayne Abrams

Flynn Robinson went to SIU and was a prolific scorer back in the 60's but transferred to Wyoming and did not finish his career at SIU - Robinson went on to the NBA and had several seasons of 19-20 ppg - but he's not on their ballot.

Lowery on the ballot as a player but as a coach??? He had a few good years with Weber's and Painter's players. Once they were gone, we saw what kind of coach he really was.

    JMO.
My first BU hoops game was on 12/30/1963. My dad took me to watch the Braves defeat Arizona 67-59. He helped me get Coach Orsborn's autograph before the game.

If getting players was the only way to be successful in college basketball former WIU coach Derrick Thomas would still be a head coach.

Lowery was and is a good coach, who like all coaches, had some rough luck. He gambled to get back to repectability and lost on the gamble. Its called life, it rarely makes sense.

Good to see Tatum make it. I enjoyed watching him and Brooks back in the day (well, not THAT long ago)...whenever they didn't play BU that is.
