In an article about the RPI this writer for the Fresno Bee says this about Bradley and the Missouri Valley:
"Teams such as Kansas, which played a game at their opponents' gym only once before Jan. 14 last season, will be penalized in the RPI, though it didn't matter much for the Jayhawks as the traditional power won the Big 12 tournament title last season and were given a No. 4 NCAA Tournament seed in the Oakland Region.
They were then promptly escorted out of the tournament in the first round
by the Bradley Braves.
Those rats from the Missouri Valley Conference again.
Rats?
There you go.......a great idea for our mascot!!
The overall implication of the story is that the MVC really doesn't deserve the high RPI they have, as he says this:
"The Ratings Percentage Index, created in 1981 to supply data to the tournament selection committee for at-large bids and seeding, has been the focus of ridicule from some, glee for others.
It certainly has been a friend to the Missouri Valley Conference, which changed its scheduling practices to bolster the number of teams the conference gets into the tournament."
