I don't even care about the cost of the lawsuit. What really angers me is that we chased Les off for Geno.

Yeah, I was also a huge fan of Jim Les. He is a class act and what he is doing at UC Davis, he could have been doing here. Sweet 16 and up. At least we are on our way back, but the whole slide is a rotten shame and a slap in the face to Bradley fans all over.

This falls at the feet of Shaheen. This is his mess. I was concerned that JG would create a void and disruption for a period of years. But this has now stretched into a lost decade .. The greater concern is that JG's aggressiveness in repeated poor decision making...weakened BU and its programs. The weak financial, enrollment position and brand at a time when the competition for students is so keen and the diminished profile of the lead sports program could not have come during a more challenging time. Conference changes etc.
The incompetence and panicked decision making by JG may take 20 years to mitigate and fully resolve.

Couldn't have said it better - thanks....
and as we just saw elsewhere - some schools are going to drop out of DI because of the swing of all the attention & revenue to the 4 or 5 dozen power FB schools, and the more difficult financial times for all the others...
I just hope we haven't been pushed too far down the into the swamp, and harmed by JG & Cross that hopefully there's still time, resources & booster/donor/fan support to turn it around.

It is now being reported (and I am not a lawyer) - in the ongoing lawsuit in Ohio courts...
that not only was Bradley obligated to pay up to $400,000 of Geno's buyout to Kent State, but apparently Bradley also spent over $100,000 trying to hire lawyers in Ohio to get the judgement against Geno thrown out...and according to some documents filed, that may violate some legal interference prohibitions and may obligate Bradley to pay a lot more...

Will it never end? - the damage and fallout and monetary obligations from the Glasser/Cross era just go on and on and on...

Heh Jim How are you? When you coming back to Riverplex? I think I can answer your question. I think Shaheen is responsible for hiring JG

I don't know exactly what Bravesfanchicago meant and he would know the specifics since he was much closer to the action then.
But Shaheen was the Chairman of the Board of Trustees in 2007 and took sole responsibility for hiring Glasser as President then. He supported and assisted her in everything she did for the next 7 years, and suppressed any opposition to her while she was here.

However, to his credit, he did finally turn against her when her serious financial deception was uncovered in 2014 and when the rest of the Board finally moved to get rid of her in late 2014, he did not stand in the way. Better late than never.

be it noted that Bravesfanchicago is someone who is an insider who was right there when all this was happening & probably knows more on this subject than anyone else around.
Go back and real his other posts ...(esp. back in 2014, 2015 - LINK)

latest details from documents in the Geno Ford lawsuit answer this question...

Yes- Bradley has been paying some of Geno's legal fees. Bradley has paid over $110,000 of Geno's fees as part of JG's and Michael Cross' short-sighted guarantee to cover up to $400K of the costs..

BUT earlier in this discussion someone came on and posted that the legal costs wouldn't be anywhere close to $100K, but they have alread exceeded that.

The $110K is just a part of Geno's legal expenses...
Bradley also has huge costs - and Kent State just filed documents demanding Bradley pay almost $250K of their legal costs as well. **
...so in the end it is not unlikely the total legal costs BU could be on the hook for thanks to JG & MC could be many hundreds of thousands of dollars!

a little breaking news in the ongoing lawsuit between Kent State and Bradley...

just as the case was going to a civil jury trial (July 31) it was transferred to the court of a different judge -
the judge that is completely new to the case - is Becky Dougherty....who was elected to her Civil Court position in 2014...
and just happens to have been a professor at Kent State University before that and HAS A DEGREE FROM KENT STATE UNIVERSITY
                        Imagine that....gotta be unbiased...

Bradley requested that the former judge (John Enlow) be DISQUALIFIED when Bradley's lawyers filed an appeal to the Ohio Supreme Court
                        because Judge Enlow had....
... "an appearance of bias based on the judge’s previous donations to Kent State
athletics, including a donation between $2,500 and $4,999 in the prior fiscal year.
.... The judge states that his wife graduated from Kent State, and he admits that he has donated to
the university’s athletic program and has also attended Kent State basketball games
                        for many years."

Bradley lost this appeal but then Enlow recently stepped down anyway.

The six years of the Kent State lawsuit are nearing an end...

The Ohio Common Pleas Court has ruled fully in Bradley's favor!!

"IT IS THEREFORE ORDERED Defendant Bradley University's Motion for Summary Judgement
is granted on Tortious Interference of Contract, Indemnification, Third-Party Beneficiary,
                          Fraudulent Transfer and Civil Conspiracy.

IT IS FURTHER ORDERED that the Defendant Gene Ford's Motion for
Summary Judgment on Fraudulent Transfer and Civil Conspiracy are granted.

IT IS FURTHER ORDERED that Kent State University's Motion for Summary
Judgment on Tortious Interference of Contract, Indemnification, Third-Party
                          Beneficiary, Fraudulent Transfer, are denied.

IT IS FURTHER ORDERED, ADJUDGED AND DECREED that this case be and is
                          hereby dismissed. Costs to Plaintiffs.

                          IT IS SO ORDERED."

                          LINK (see page 10)

So, Bradley won on essentially every single count, but there still may be elements of the case yet to be resolved but the wording above is pretty encouraging.
The Bradley attorneys have saved Bradley somewhere in the neighborhood of $2 million when all the buyout costs, legal costs, and court costs are considered plus the costs if we had to continue paying for Geno's costs.

not much update but more encouraging signs...

the heading in the databank on the lawsuit has been changed and now says:

2015CV00216 KENT STATE UNIVERSITY VS. BRADLEY UNIVERSITY et al

                            CLOSED

                            Case Type CIVIL (COMMON PLEAS)
                            Case Status: CLOSED

This is the best news regarding the lawsuits since 2011 when they were triggered by the actions of Glasser, Cross & Geno!
Once again CONGRATS to Dr. Chris Reynolds and his associates and legal team for doing the near-impossible in cleaning up the horrific mess left behind by the former administration.

more evidence that this whole case is OVER...
The court has billed Kent State for all the court costs...good job defendants!
