Maybe they should change the nickname to Calvary and have a mascot dressed as a Calvary member. Didn't the Calvary chase away the Braves?

Any chance BU Admin would consider the Bradley 'Spinsters', or, the Bradley 'Moss' in deference to its founder? Can't wait for BU to play the Stanford Trees with our litchen looking mascot chasing the tree around the court!!!
Given the state of Peoria in general and the location of BU in particular, the Bradley 'Bangers' could also fit as a mascot. There would be a gang banger in uniform rapping and spinning records during games.. Could also be a solution to increasing student attendance at games.
...BUilding for the Future

the Scout editorial writer throws cold water on team spirit and the idea of developing a mascot and a larger student following of the teams

What has changed?
And, for what it is worth: A gargoyle has nothing to do with BU other than what is on some buildings (which is common-place on many large limestone fa?§ade buildings in the world). No tradition is associated with the thing and it has nothing to do with Braves.
And we could go on ad infinitum with this argument, why does it get re-hashed? Whatever they come up with, I hope it makes sense and still ties to "Braves" and BU tradition somehow.
As for the gargoyle vs any other thing for a mascot argument...what would you pick? Birds, dogs, and cats are over done and tired. A rose...maybe a clock. Ooooh, nothing says intimidation or pride like a ticking clock. Maybe something Peoria related? We could have a giant yellow Caterpillar walk the sidelines...thoughts?
As far as I know, no one else has a gargoyle for a mascot. I like it and every student who has taken a class in Neumiller Lecture Hall has passed beneath Bradley's gargoyles. So, there is a connection...albeit a loose one. But its better than a bobcat, a lion, an eagle, a redhawk, a squirrel, a bulldog, a beagle, a clock, the thunder, lightning, a tornado, a tree, a forest, and (I'd be willing to wager) anything else you can come up with.
And, need I remind you that traditions have to start somewhere...why not here and why not now? Something that isn't a tradition for you can be made into a tradition for current and future students.
I was lucky enough to see the artist renderings of the possible gargoyle and was very impressed.

First we had mascots - Indians, then Bobcats.....then we were going to name a new mascot in 2006, then we even held a "vote", then they back tracked and said we'd have no mascot..then it came up again in 2010..then delayed again and brought up later in 2012, then dropped yet again!!!...now it's being brought up YET AGAIN!
Then there was a move to eliminate "Braves", then we decided to fight to keep it, then we later had another move to change it again...
..and again......and again...now they're holding focus groups to see what the feeling is out there before embarrassing themselves again.

If the teams are known as the Braves and a Brave can't be used as a mascot, why even have a mascot? Why should a team known as the Braves be represented by an animal? When I go to the games I don't worry about a mascot being there. What part of illegal don't you understand?

Gargoyle hats, keychains, shirts, foam wings for the little ones...not to mention that they'll have an official brand ambassador for the athletic department.
So, if they University and our Athletic Dept can cash in (to potentially hundreds of thousands of dollars) and some new traditions can be introduced and cemented...the question is twofold 1.) Why not? and 2.) why are ya'll so grumpy?

Hey - here's somewhat of an independent question...what does a wolf have to do with Loyola?
New MVC member Loyola are and have been since 1926, THE RAMBLERS........
Their one time mascot named "Bo Rambler" was sort-of a hobo/homeless-looking man but as time went on that seemed politically incorrect so was dropped.
and yet since the early 1990's, their logo is this...a wolf
In 2012 they upgraded their wolf mascot from a cartoonish character to a more menacing WOLF
Here's the answer - the school itself gets it's name from St. Ignatius of Loyola - and the coat of arms associated with St. Ignatius has a pair of wolves.
So is anything associated with Lydia Moss Bradley or Springdale Cemetary where she's laid to rest?? --
.....ferns?, a rose?, angel?, pteradactyl?..
