  • Try to predict: Who will be BU's 1st 2014 verbal?

I will extend a guess - but first - look back at 2012 when we were waiting for our first 2013 verbal...
...we got two fall verbals, Tucker & Zecevic... after losing a few recruiting battles in Aug. & Sept.

but we didn't even know about the existence and didn't even know Bradley was recruiting either one of them until much later than August 2012. So I think the same will happen this year...

The very first word of Zecevic was 9/12/12 - at which time he had already verballed

Tucker wasn't even a known quantity until mid-October - only a couple weeks before the "deadline" that was set for Halloween...

So -- here's my thought -- I believe our first one will be a juco guard with combo guard skills - from some midwestern juco...

then I think we pick up a 2nd commitment - but not 'til later in October - from another SG...
there could be some big man out there but history tells us that few quality big men verbal to mid-majors this early...

Obviously nobody knows for sure - even Geno obviously does not know who is gonna commit first...so this
is a very inexact science......but give it a go and make a guess.......
Other options might be Peyton Allen, Josh Cunningham, Jonathon Wilkins, Obediah Church, Rasham Suarez, etc..

I'd be shocked if Bradley takes Allen or gets Cunningham. My thought is somebody in between, like Donte Thomas.

If history holds true it will be none of the names that are out there now. Another question, how many MVC teams do not have at least one verbal at this point?

We had one main main recruiting article last summer (2012), and if you read the whole things and the articles it links to you see from mid-July thru the end of August - we struck out on quite a few of our top recruiting targets...some were labelled #1 targets..
Cohn, Riley, Karrington Ward, Nate Taphorn, various juco kids form the Mullens event in St. Louis, Harold Givens (who, btw, is STILL uncommitted)..

so we're not in unfamiliar waters - we still have time....

Every MVC team except Bradley and Illinois State have had verbals for 2014.
And Illinois State does not have any seniors and has no scholarships left. In addition, ISU has a kid on campus named Deonte Hawkins that they are hoping will be able to gain eligibility for 2014, and they'll have to free up a scholarship for him.
Indiana State's lone 2014 verbal commitment backed out (Bryant McIntosh) and reopened his recruiting. But Bradley is the only team with openings that has not had at least 1 verbal for 2014 already.

If I were BU, I wouldn't want any possible recruit announcing he verbaled to BU.
Don't draw any attention to BU's recruits for others to try and steal!

I think it will be a point guard.
