  • OT- Baseball- the Parr brothers from Chillicothe/IVC HS

Most sports fans in the Peoria area are familiar with the Parr brothers from Chillicothe and IVC High School. All 3 starred at University of Illinois, and all 3 have been drafted and are playing minor league baseball currently.
Jordan Parr who was just drafted in April by the Arizona Diamondbacks in the 15th round, has started his first pro season with the Hillsboro (Oregon)Hops of the Class A Northwest League.
    Jordan Parr's stats-

He hit his first pro home run back on June 17, but it also happened to be the first home run ever hit at the new Hillsboro Ballpark.
But what happened next is the subject of an interesting story. The team's General Manager tried to bargain with the family that caught the home run ball, but they literally played "hardball" and kept asking for more than the team was willing to trade. In the end, the team's GM gave up and walked away, and Jordan never got his souvenir first pro home run ball-

Jordan's twin brother Justin Parr was also drafted this past April, by the Philadelphia Phillies in the 8th round, and assigned to the Williamsport Crosscutters of the Class A New York-Penn League.
    Justin Parr's stats-

And Josh Parr, who is a year older than the twin brothers, is also playing for the Hillsboro Hops in the Arizona Diamondbacks system. He was drafted by Arizona in the 12th round of the 2011 MLB draft.

Interesting tie to Bradley here as well as MLB. Also from IVC high school is Zach McAllister who was drafted right out of IVC and is currently with the Cleveland Indians. His path has been well documented by local media. Zach's Father is Steve, who currently serves as the D-backs' Midwest Amateur Scouting Supervisor. Steve was instrumental in the Parr boys getting drafted. Taking nothing away from them, they likely would have been drafted but it helped that Steve had them on his radar at a young age and it helped that the boys knew they were being watched from a young age. 4 kids from the same small High School who all were on the same team for at least a year, all getting drafted. Amazing.

There was 1 more kid drafted from those same IVC baseball teams-
Chris Razo is the same age as Jordan and Justin Parr and was a pitcher on the same team. He was also drafted last April in the 2013 MLB draft by the Milwaukee Brewers in the 24th round. He put up great numbers at his first stop in the Pioneer Rookie League, and just got a promotion to the Wisconsin Timber Rattlers of the Class A Midwest League.

And there have been a number of other kids from Jerry Rashid's teams that also went on to play college baseball, including Derek Sprout (Bradley), Tyler Anderson (Bradley), Cody Kentzel (Bradley), Adam Sperry, Chris Shindley, Joel Perez, & Mark McIntyre.

These kids join Girardi and Thome in putting Peoria area on the MLBB map. Would be great if all could show up someday for some sort of free clinic at Dozer Stadium for area kids. Continue pushing BB with local, particularly inner city, kids.
