  • Drake player suddenly leaves program

Kori Babineaux, who would have been a sophomore, is gone from the Drake team. He was a freshman last season, and played in 18 games, averaging just 2 ppg. He will enroll at City College of San Francisco. He is originally from Folsom, California.
Kori Babineaux (0) GUARD - Kori Babineaux enters his freshman season at Drake after playing one season at Lake Forest (Ill.) Academy. Prior to that he was a two-sport

I don't think there was anything sudden about it....he was suspended for the last several games of last season, and didn't play in the summer league here with the other Drake players.

He also wasn't likely to get much playing time at all....he was a guy without a position. He was recruited as a big, physical point guard, but it became obvious very early on last season that he couldn't play the point at this level. He has no outside shot to speak of, which meant that he couldn't play the 2 or the 3 either.

Sudden in the sense that it was not reported anywhere until this week, the new coach was hired 5 months ago, and it is highly unusual for a player to wait until the end of the summer before he announces a transfer.
