Same location. Don't know if the magnet school is the same building. It was a junior high back in the day.

I think Jim Cusack scored about 34 for Spalding. Neither Spalding nor Central had gyms in those days. Roosevelt, with its tile floor, was home court for most ... if not all ... Central games and Spalding played most of its home games on the stage at Woodruff.
Saw a Spalding-Central there back in I think 1952 when Stout and Cusack were Seniors. Sat right behind the basket upstairs. If my old memory serves me right, Hiles had 48 points and Jim had 30.

Yep, it was the '52-'53 season, Chico. Had a chance to visit with Jim Cusack a couple of years ago. He said he and Stout had met recently at a Hall of Fame function in Peoria and reminisced about the game. He said they remembered a lot of the details but weren't quite sure who won the game. Actually, Central won 86-73. It was played on Feb. 6, 1953 in front of 2,000 fans crammed into the Roosevelt Gym. The following Sunday, Spalding dedicated their new $750,000 gymnasium with a game against Rock Island Alleman, led by Gene "Porky" Oliver. Central later beat Spalding 72-53 for the Regional Championship. Apologies to the whippersnappers for the history lesson.

TNel you and Chico must be old. LOL I don't remember that game but I do barely remember Hiles and Jim. I'm not far behind you two.

The new gym was dedicated my junior year at Spalding. We had a good team led by Cusack, Walz and Mirande, but Central was just a little better. Oliver also led Alleman to a football victory over us when I was junior. He was a great all around athlete. I had a chance to meet him through my buddy Royce Elliott out in Mesa a few years ago when Royce was there for the entertainment on the last day of the Cub fantasy camp. He remembered the Spalding games.

Just picked up a scholarship offer today from Dayton, but is reported here to already have an offer from Bradley
Brady Ellingson, who was a Bradley recruit at one time, just committed to Iowa. From someone who saw him in person, he was described as another Jeremy Crouch. Should be a good player for Iowa.

Alex Sorenson gets his second D2 offer from Northern Michigan to go along with Wisconsin-Parkside. I think more offers will come.

I was surprised to see Dunlap lose their conference opener against Morton on Friday night.

Dunlap's Alex Sorenson once had recruiting attention from Bradley, but committed to D2 Northern Michigan in Marquette, Michigan. He had a pretty good freshman season, playing in all 28 games, and staring 18 of them. He averaged 8.1 ppg and 4.5 rpg.
But he left Northern Michigan after his freshman year and transferred to D3 North Central College in Naperville.
In NCC's first game of the season last night, Alex put up 27 points and 11 rebounds as North Central clobbered the #7 ranked team in D3, Mt. Union.
