A couple new names - all for 2014 but would like to get at least a couple signed this fall... most all these names are familiar to BU fans since we've already been discussing them.
seems getting depth at PG is a high priority - but it wasn't just a couple months ago - we just used up five scholarships this past spring and not one went to a ball handler..

One comment is rather telling -

“When we first got here (two years ago), if you were a hard worker, you stood out.

Both these point guard recruits will be visiting Bradley next week, according to Dave.

And some might find it interesting that we are targeting another point guard as our top priority, but I have heard this is the case. I have heard that Anthony Fields is not a shoe-in as our starting PG after Walt is gone.

I agree. I'd like 3 scholarship PGs on the roster.

On the 2009-2010 roster, Jordan Prosser was listed as 6-8, 220 lb

Then on 2010-2011, 2011-2012, and 2012-2013 he was listed as 6-9, 240 even though the 6-9 has always been a little suspect by anyone who sits close enough to the court to see JP standing next to other players.

NOW - Jordan is listed a 6-8 again - and we don't have anyone with much post-HS experience any taller.....


-As weak as Drake might be with all their losses - at least they go 6-10 & 6-11 in the low post
Evansville returns 6-10 Egidijus Mockevicius, ISU has FOUR 6-9 & 6-10 guys all are jucos or three years into college, Loyola has two 6-10 returnees, Indiana State has 6-10 and 6-11, UNI, Wichita, & MSU have multiple 6-9 & 6-10 guys..
Only SIU appears as small in the low post as we do and we know how that hurt SIU so bad last year - their rebounding leader was a 6-1 guard and they got regularly outrebounded badly as team -especially in conference play - and that cost them many games.

OK - I'll bite - first it's pretty unfair to use Nate Wells - he's only played his freshman season and didn't get much chance at all.

But in regards to what I was referring to - actually both Collins & Thompson were decent defensive players in the low post.
Neither was really offensively skilled but go back and re-read my comments about how Anthony Thompson did a GOOD job shutting down Doug McDermott but simply did not play enough to make a difference.

Sure - we had POB for 2 years, but remember this debate where I listed the stats of every low post player we've had since the Albeck era - and virtually NONE had any better stats than the players we had last year - the only minute contention anyone seemed to be able to come up with was a weak attempt to try to claim Jerry Thomas and Deon Jackson were predominately low post players -
so in effect, they proved my point - you can gripe all you want about not having a GREAT low post player - but fact is we really haven't had but one or two in 20-25 years!
They don't grow on trees, but if I had my preferences I'd take a mediocre 6-10 or 6-11 kid over a mediocre one that is 6-5 or 6-6.

Lastly - Remember the most embarrassing shellackings we've had so far in the Geno era were at the hands of Creighton's McDermott & Echenique, Evansville's Sawvell & Mockevicius, and the Shox' Hall & Orukpe...
none of whom (except McDermott) is very offensively skilled - they are just big guys that massively out played our guys and embarrassed us in 30-35 point blowouts because we had NO SIZE to stop them.
I hope we don't learn the hard way that size does matter.
