OK - one single thread for any and all predictions --
Let's see who is bold enough to leave their thoughts on the upcoming season...
I will start it off -
(knowing full well that some will have the urge to try to swipe at anyone whose
predictions are even slightly inaccurate - but be not afraid -- if the worst they
can find is that maybe some player like TCS didn't turn out as well as you
predicted in 2007, the I think for the most part that's proof we have some very
astute fans here and our predictions are generally pretty danged good.)
Here goes:
Preseason- we will win all four games in the Bahamas. I cannot find any example in history of any D-I team ever going to the Bahamas and playing one of these low level club teams and actually struggling or losing.
Non-conference- we should have at least 10 wins in the non-conference part of the season! Jacksonville State, Alabama State, CMU, Chicago State, UTPA, IUPUI, UW-M, IPFW, Portland, and Pacific have to be in the win column for us to even keep an RPI of 100. We could also possibly surprise USF, Illinois, or ASU!
Conference- given that our two losses to Creighton should now be two wins, and given how far Drake, Evansville, & ISU have fallen - it would seem a no-brainer that if we won 7 last year, we ought to get at least 9-10 Valley wins this year.
The favorite for MVC scoring leader and POY plus the league's toughest returning rebounder are nice things for Geno to have on the roster.
Post-season?- OK - I will stick my neck out -- that if we have 19-20 wins we're gonna easily be able to buy a couple home games & wins in the CIT or CBI and end up with 21-22 wins minimum.
This should be enough to make fans happy and get the attendance up some - and get some good press, although we all know that 2007, 2008, and 2009 saw us winning 21 or 22 and some unhappy fans still grumbled endlessly...so be forewarned.
But - I think a winning season with 21 or 22 wins will even get talk next spring of some team who is looking for a new coach might come calling (like this fan at Vanderbilt who is thinking of someone to replace Kevin Stallings!)
...although I think the "buyout" will keep Geno here.
