Valley recruits

Brendon Gooch played on Belleville Althoff who were widely favored to be the favorites to make a deep run to State if not win the State Title...

Just thought I'd post how they are doing...
pretty darned good...
they are 25-2, they won both their Regional games (by 25 pts), then they won their Sectional semifinal Tuesday by a huge blowout score of 101-63. They play Centralia tomorrow night for Sectional Championship. If they win they advance to Supersectional against the winner of Springfield Southeast vs. Springfield Lanphier.
They are also ranked #1 in Illinois in 3A and ranked #25 in the NATIONAL Top 25 by MaxPreps.
Jordan Goodwin & Tarkus Ferguson grab most of the headlines, but all five starters average 10 ppg or more.

Also - here's one more little factoid tidbit that I coulda really stumped everyone with...
The Althoff head coach is Greg Lieb....when he was in college at SIU-E, one of his teammates was the father of his current star player Jordan Goodwin...
BUT - one of his other teammates at SIU-E was......ANTHONY WEBSTER after Webster had gotten disgruntled and left Bradley!

Yet one more tidbit - Althoff coach Greg Leib's older brother Phil Leib played at NIU for Jim Molinari then became and assistant there under Mo and even served for a year under Jim Molinari at Bradley!!!

One of SIU's other signees, point guard Aaron Cook, suffered a dislocated shoulder a month ago and has missed significant time -
"The Southern Illinois signee's status going forward is uncertain."

They actually tried to bring Cook back a couple games ago but he reinjured himself and is now out again...
"Cook.... did return for the final three regular season contests before missing Thursday’s game."

One more thing - Indiana State just landed a verbal...
Class of 2016 Donovan Franklin from Gulf Coast State
Juco shooting guard - 14.9 ppg, 36.4% from the arc, 4.3 rpg

2016 G 6'3 Jake Baughman committed to Loyola as a preferred walk on

for a point guard that is 7th in the nation in scoring at 23.2 ppg you kinda have to wonder what's up - the kid had virtually zero offers either out of HS or now..

From what I understand, he was offered recently by Crews at SLU and Ford at OK State, both were fired. I also heard he had offers from SEMO and SIU.

But you are right his production doesn't match the interest. He is very small. I doubt he is as big as Dequan Miller.

former MSU commit Zach Cameron Chodes has already gotten an offer from Boston College - even before playing at Brewster
plus interest from others - including Barry Hinson..
...he's been playing in an eastern pro-am league
...

Zach Cameron-Chodes - who decommitted from Missouri State now, after a year at prep school
commits to ....Kennesaw State........

There are also some rumors that Illini walk-on Mike LaTulip will land at ISU
If so, then is he the player to be named later for Jon Ekey

Here are LaTulip's 3-year stats

Freshman - 16 games played, 4-11, 36% overall, 3-9, 33% from 3-pt, 1.2 ppg, 0.1 rpg, 0 assists, 0 blocks, 0 steals
Sophomore - 12 games played, 3-9, 33% overall, 3-9, 33% from 3-pt, 0.9 ppg, 0.25 rpg, 0 assists, 0.2 blocks, 0.1 steals
Junior - 16 games played, 6-13, 46% overall, 4-9, 44% from 3-pt, 1.6 ppg, 0.6 rpg, 0 assists, 0 blocks, 0.06 steals
Career - 44 games played, 13-33, 39% overall, 10-27, 37% from 3-pt, Career averages: 1.3 ppg, 0.3 rpg, 0.05 assists, 0 blocks, 0.05 steals

I know the guy's a walk-on, but there are "gurus" out of Chicago claiming he's an impact player and that mid-majors would be "crazy" not to want him.....

new Loyola commit included

The Waterloo/Cedar Falls Courier confirms that UNI has one open scholarship left for 2016 (the one vacated by juco Aarias Austin when
he left to transfer to Minnesota State) - and... one of their freshman redshirts (Lincoln Conrey) remains a walkon

Milwaukee grad transfer Akeem Springs has heard from Florida State, Ole Miss, VCU, Creighton, Butler, Minnesota, Illinois State, others.

Also Matt Chastain is on Ill St.'s campus today for an official visit.

Illinois State - Roland Griffin, Keyshawn Evans, Matt Hein, Daoud N'Daiye, Elvis Harvey, Quintin Brewer (transfer from Bethune Cookman eligible immed. as grad transfer), Nick Banyard (transfer from New Mexico should be eligible in 2015)......

Not much left of Illinois State's seven man 2015 Class........ya need a program to keep track of those headed out the door - almost rivals an average Geno year ;)

-Roland Griffin - behavior issues all along despite the spin that he had stubbed his toe- now sent packing
-Elvis Harvey - highly touted but didn't show much - left right in mid-season, wasting eligibility - headed to juco in Florida
-Keyshawn Evans - musta been in the doghouse all year- apparently still on the team but hasn't seen the court since like Christmas
-Matt Hein - redshirted and still on the team but rumors that he's still not DI-worthy
-Daoud N'Diaye - coulda benefitted from a redshirt but was needed, his production was less than Danate Cooper or even Peter Hanley.
-Quintin Brewer - a 1-year grad transfer who got TWO DUI's and yet was rewarded with decent playing time - arguable if 2.7 ppg warranted it. Gone now.
-Nick Banyard - the most productive guy on the list, and once described by Muller as - "the most athletic player on the team".
.....but talk now he's leaving as well. Already finished 4 years of college - might get degree this summer and leave.

I am puzzled by the assessment their campus paper, the Vidette gave Dan Muller - who they say signed and extension thru 2019

"ISU coach Dan Muller did an excellent job leading this team ..."
and
"Muller did a tremendous job this season considering everything... The program is in good hands under Muller"

then a couple lines later...
-discussion of all the discipline issues but not even mentioning the DUI's and other arrests
-discussion of multiple players suspended then dismissed
-puzzling losses mixed in with good wins
-then this comment...
"There were a handful of contests where the Redbirds were clearly in control and just gave games away. This falls on the hands of the coaching staff.
ISU was unprepared entering Arch Madness and it showed during the Redbirds' embarrassing loss to Indiana State"

It had been widely said that ISU has the most athletic, maybe the deepest roster - and they were picked by some to contend for a title with Wichita..
...so did Muller do an excellent job?? This same kind of job got another Valley coach fired and their press ripping him & calling the program "renegade".
Gonna be interesting...

yup - it's being reported in Pantagraph
http://www.pantagraph.com/sports/co...cle_bc8300c6-00b7-5928-a471-d68947653b4a.html

but I get a strong idea that Nick Banyard has some mighty inflated opinion of his abilities and his contributions at the DI level.
I guess I'd be shocked if anyone above the Chicago State level would really want the guy that badly.

First - he was not highly touted nor recruited coming out of high school

Then he aimed way, way too high and wasted two full seasons rotting on the bench at New Mexico barely seeing the court.
He finally wised up and ISU was gracious enough to give him a decent opportunity. I'm not sure he had many other offers...he ought to be thankful someone at the high mid-major level wanted him.
Then the fortuitous departure of Reggie Lynch opened a ton of potential playing time and Banyard got to play 20 minutes per game - even getting to start several!

I can't imagine anyone higher than Chicago State-level would have played the guy that much, since he hit only 39.6% of his shots, 34% from the arc and a horrible 45% from the FT line...overall 5 ppg!
Those kind of numbers don't exactly cause the recruiters to line up at your front door. And that FT shooting make you a liability to play you in a close game!

Time will tell - but wake me up if he gets a call from John Groce or transfer-U over there in Ames, Iowa.

ISU loses Nick Banyard
Evansville Loses Mislav Brzoja - leaving to play pro
Missouri State loses Shawn Roundtree
Wichita loses Ty Taylor
Drake loses Kale Abrahamson
Loyola loses Pernell Adgei

PLUS - Evansville lands a commitment
..so this changes everyone's scholarships-available count..
