3 things on the 2016 MVC recruits....

-we're almost done (a little over 48 hours) with the fall signing period...and there have been very few surprises - and may be no further signings

-all but InSU, MSU, & UNI have 2016 scholarships to fill plus there's always the chance that with player departures- even those teams may syll be busy next spring - so the spring signing period (April 13, 2016 thru midnight May 18, 2016) will be interesting

-I plan to start a new thread regarding the 2017 Valley recruits since that's just getting started...

...no word of explanation on why Chicago Kenwood's Nick Robinson never signed with Indiana State, but his own high school teammate Zion Morgan also reneged on his commitment to Valpo and did not sign - interesting...

...has enrolled at Vincennes University and will be a juco freshman there - so he will become a 2017 recruit.

SIU & Barry Hinson have reportedly landed a late 2015 kid -
from John A. Logan, Bobbie Mannie - possibly a walk on..
...he's small, 5-11, but supposedly good defensively and "a great leaper"

He had only played a few minutes in a half dozen games - but when he didn't see even a second of playing time in either the blowout here or
the even bigger blowout loss to Wichita, he smelled the coffee


btw Barry Hinson said after his huge loss to Wichita, that next game "he will sub players like a hockey coach ..."
Two other players that get extremely scarce playing time, Sean Lloyd & Deng Leek, did get playing time vs. BU & Wichita...
both rumored to be in the doghouse for effort.

former Loyola commit Roosevelt Smart, who decided instead to go the prep route at Sunrise Christian..
...uncommitted for 2016

former Loyola commit & BU recruit Roosevelt Smart has now verballed to a junior college...
he was doing an extra year of high school and reneged on other DI offers - even his commit to Loyola...so it must be about academics...

He will reportedly play next year at New Mexico Junior college

one of Bradley's former 2015 recruits that a lot of people here liked... is Lincoln's Gavin Block - who is a freshman at Ohio...
in an article on the new players Ohio has and their losses (including Ryan Taylor who is now at Evansville)
it sounds like this is an ideal situation for Gavin Block - as Taylor was a very similar player and that clearly opens up some potential for immediate playing time....
There are still other similar players ahead of Block but none are great shooters - so it's still possible he might not play or even redshirt...so time will tell

Gavin Block is playing a key part at Ohio as a freshman..

Tuesday he played 33 minutes, hit 5-7, had 16 pts, 5 rebs, 3 assists...
Ohio won 82 - 64 over WMU and are 11-6 with Gavin averaging 5 ppg & 39% shooting from the arc as their 6th man.
Since conference play started - he's averaging 12 ppg in 25 minutes per game!

Reaves' highlight videos are pretty impressive, but they are high school games, not AAU. Leads the country with 38 ppg, adding 11 rpg and 5 apg as a 6'5 PG.

Scored 73 in a December game, then 191 over 4 games in some tournament (not including the 73-point game).

He will need to bulk up a bit. I think his success (and whether he redshirts or not), will depend on how quickly he adjusts to D1 speed and athleticism.

SIU coach Barry Hinson got a commit Saturday from a pretty good combo guard from Chicago. He played for Chicago Uplift Academy last year and helped lead them to a Class 2A state title. This season, he is playing at Victory Rock Prep in Florida.
