Updated...(note a new name, Kreklow, added to Missouri State) - surprising that nobody yet has any 2016 recruits...
and does Drake have an open scholarship for this new big guy?
Very slow on the recruiting front at BU & SIU - but SIU has only one senior (Verhines) and I believe he's a walk on
...anyway - it would appear that Drake, Evansville, Illinois State (oversigned by one), Indiana State, Missouri State (oversigned by one), Northern Iowa, SIU, and Wichita State (oversigned by one) - all seem to now be out of scholarships - only Bradley & Loyola seem to be the only two MVC teams left to fill obvious open schoarships. Of course more could open by spring but the pickings may be slimmer by them.
2015
Bradley-
Drake - Nick McGlynn, Kale Abrahamson (transfer from Northwestern, becomes eligible), Graham Woodward, transfer from Penn State, Billy Wampler, Johannes Dolven, Dominik Olejniczak
Evansville - Harris Brown
Illinois State - Roland Griffin, Keyshawn Evans, Matt Hein, Daoud N'Daiye
Indiana State - Bronson Kessinger, Emondre Rickman
Loyola - Maurice Kirby, Roosevelt Smart
Missouri State - Zach Cameron, Jarred Dixon, Obediah Church, Ryan Kreklow
UNI - Luke McDonnell, Spencer Haldeman, Justin Dahl
SIU -
Wichita State - Landry Shamet, Eric Hamilton (2014 recruit who reclassified and is now 2015), Tyrone Taylor
2016

Loyola just landed a verbal from 2015 forward Pernell Adgei of Fishburne Military in Virginia
He is a raw 6-8 PF who is a bit under the radar...
SIU had a couple of those Fishburne Academy players and they tend to be way under the radar..
...this would appear to exhaust Loyola's last scholarship so now nobody else in the MVC has any open scholarships (on paper) except Bradley

Shockers get yet another verbal - now they appear to be 2 over the limit - they'd better hope one of their key players doesn't unexpectedly need a redshirt next year - or they're gonna have to run off a bunch of guys
Three of their four guys are from states on the Atlantic coast - hmmm...maybe a hint they're looking to do some affiliating with a conference out there?

As to a change in conference affiliation, the ACC hasn't extended a serious offer yet.

We're two over on paper, but I think most believe that Ron Baker won't be coming back after this season. I've heard rumors that Wessel is willing to give up his scholarship as a senior to bring in another talented player. That however, is only a rumor. But that would free up 2 scholarships. Some also believe that Shaq Morris, who has a ton of talent, is on a short leash and must put forth the effort demanded or he may find himself transferring out after this year. Personally, I'd hate to see that as I think he could do big things for us.

I like to hear from others what they think about Ron Baker's chances of getting drafted into the NBA.
Personally, I feel he is a fine player, but IMO he is not NBA caliber talent. Thus I don't see him or Van Vleet leaving before they graduate, which is not good news for the rest of the MVC.

I don't know how strong this year's draft class is. He is a pro player in my mind, but he might not be anything but a second round choice right now. His effort level and defense combined with the shooting he previously showed would make him a 12th or 11th man. Add in the fact he is the number two point guard for the Shockers, if he can show serious improvement as a point guard or shooter or overall athleticism, he could move himself into the mid-late 1st round this year. Definitely a late first round pick next year.
Fred VanVleet reminds me a lot of Eric Maynor. Shorter, but similar style and skill level. It is my belief they will both play at least 3 years in the league.Gotta stop feeding the trolls.

Both VanVleet and Baker competed favorably at summer camps against the best guards in the nation, but Baker has some things that VanVleet does not. Ron is 6-4, 225 with a 6-9 reach and giant mitts. His athleticism is pretty high. Please realize that he played with a severe ankle sprain last MVC season and was expected to miss 4-6 weeks, but he didn't miss a single game.
For Baker, the question will be whether he can be an NBA point or not. That will make the difference between 1st and 2nd round.

I may be wrong, but I predict he will not be drafted, this year or next. Not to detract from his fine skills, but IMO, he is simply too undersized and not athletic enough to play the 2-guard, and he is not a point guard.
