  • Drake lands 6-11 center

even tho the kid is still a year away from finishing high school - Class of 2014 -
he seems pretty set on the idea of redshirting when he gets to Drake...and is pretty blunt in his language on the subject...

"...Kuenstling was asked about the prospect of taking a redshirt year. ...
He was quick to point out that he??™s open to the idea.

???I??™d rather be a good player for four years than suck for two years and finally be good for two years,??? Kuenstling said.
???I mean, why not be honest about it????"

The kid is raw, skinny, goes to a very small high school, and has only one other D-I offer (Northern Colorado) - reminiscent of Nate Wells..

Here's an article detailing the percentage of playing time each D-I coach gives to freshmen..

It is limited to D-I coaches with at least 5 yrs experience...
Obviously the top freshmen recruits would be interested in playing right away so maybe these numbers are meaningful...

    Some examples..

    John Calipari - 37%
    John Beilein - 26%
    Tom Crean - 25%
    Marty Simmons - 24%
    Bill Self - 23%
    Ray Giacoletti - 22%
    Mike Krzyzewski - 22%
    Greg McDermott - 20%
    John Groce - 19%
    Barry Hinson - 18%
    Porter Moser - 17%
    Ben Jacobson - 17%
    Gregg Marshall - 14%
    Bruce Weber - 13%
    Geno Ford - 10%

Here's what it means to me and I maybe totally wrong but as I see it. It means the higher the percentage the better Freshmen they've recruited. In some cases it could also mean their upper classmen aren't very good. I choose the former rather than the latter.

Recruiting a lot of JUCOs will bring that number down.

Yep, and recruiting a lot of McDonalds All-Americans will raise it.
