  • Bradley adds 17th home game

Bradley just announced they have added 1 more non-conference game to their 2013-14 schedule. It was thought they would add another road game, but the additional game is another home game against IPFW. It will be their 8th home non-conference game and their 17th scheduled home game including 9 MVC games next year.
PEORIA, Ill. ? Bradley has completed its non-conference men's basketball schedule by announcing a home game versus IPFW Dec. 10, which gives the Braves the most home games in nearly a half-century.

The IPFW (Indiana-Purdue Ft. Wayne) Mastodons are members of the Summit League. They are coached by Tony Jasick, and they were 16-17 last year, 7-9 in the Summit, good for 5th place. They lost 2 of their top 3 scorers and rebounders from last year.
Their RPI last year was 254, and their SOS was 316. They achieved a winning record only twice in their 13 year D1 history (16-15 in 2010, and 18-12 in 2011 under Dane Fife).

Sorry to spoil the riddle, but I just posted the coach's name in the post above- Tony Jasick.

17 home games certainly helps take away a little of the sting of the increase in ticket prices.

When will we find out where the home games are played: Civic Center vs. Campus?

Don't care how many home games there are, this schedule is a disgrace. I thought the home schedules in the 70's were bad, and they were bad.
What part of illegal don't you understand?

I would hope there's a promise implied that if we are GOOD (meaning substantially over .500) against this schedule,
then we will be presented with a whole lot more competitive one next year...

Bradley used to get thousands of fans who bought individual game tickets, and even a lot of walk-up fans. Last year we saw that most non-conference home games drew only a small number of fans above the season ticket sales.
The weak schedule has a couple of undesired effects- the season ticket sales will keep dropping- from what I am hearing, they will reach all-time lows for the Civic Center, and maybe rival the lowest season ticket base since Bradley moved into the Fieldhouse.
And the weak schedule will continue to kill off the individual game ticket sales, and the walk-up sales.

This schedule is the worst I have seen ever. But be realistic, it will take years to get back on track, depending on whether we can put 18-20 win seasons back to back.

I understand that is part of it. But other schools that have not done as well as Bradley and have far less to offer are still able to schedule better than this. Approximately 98% of Division I teams had better SOS than Bradley last year, and I expect the numbers to be similar this year. Many of the games on this schedule were booked after we had a winning season last year. The Bradley administration themselves suggested several times that the "down scheduling" was a one time phenomenon due to the young and inexperienced team we had last year that had no post-season expectations. So fans are having a hard time understanding why it wasn't at least a little better, especially the home games.
I love to see us win, and we should easily win most of these games on the pre-conference schedule. But I am afraid it will drive away a lot more of the loyal fans who have stuck with Bradley through the losing years. I hope I am wrong.

Any fan, like myself, who stuck with the Braves during the 70's should be able to stick with them now.

Takes two to tango.... Are you suggesting DC that BU didn't ask better schools to play them in Peoria in 2013-14? Or, did they try and no one wanted to play BU at home where losing would be a big negative on their resume since BU has been down for so long?

Winning solves lots of problems for BU.. attendance, scheduling, recruiting, post season... Right now it doesn't matter if the W's are against cupcakes or BCS Teams... Lots of new faces at BU which will benefit from an easier pre season schedule to try and figure it out and jell before taking on the MVC.

While BCS teams, or, big time mid majors at home in the non Con are nice, so is getting off to a great non con start and having more success in the MVC in 2013-14.

Let's go 14-3 at home this coming season and finish in the top 3 in the MVC... Then go for broke in 2014-15 with a tougher home schedule...

I think the disappointment and any attendance fall out from 2013-14 weak home non con will be more than offset if BU can keep getting better and contend in the MVC.

IDK. What do you think? Do you believe we compiled the best schedule (especially home schedule) for the fans that was possible? Or do school sometimes schedule easy to rack up a lot of wins? They admitted that was the case last year. It's one or the other- either this was the best we could do, or there was intent to put a lot of easy wins on the schedule again. What do fans think? In the end, the ticket buyers will decide.
