  • Interesting proposition for Bradley?

Peoria Stadium may soon be available for sale by Peoria District 150-

A letter to the PJ Star suggests Bradley should buy the Peoria Stadium -

IMO, that seems quite unrealistic, since it is not anywhere close to Bradley's campus, and Bradley has no need for a football stadium. The suggestion in the top article that the price could be in the range of $10 million would also seem to make this highly unlikely, not to mention the high cost of maintaining the property. Even if Bradley decided to revive football, which isn't going to happen, there is no way Bradley would pay millions to buy the dilapidated old stadium that would need a total renovation.

WalMart has already voiced interest in buying the property, but city officials seem reluctant to sell to them-

Bradley is getting ready to spend $5 million (plus or minus) at the old Meinen Field. I can't imagine they would have any interest at all in the Peoria Stadium property.

whatever happens it will be interesting...
that location is already a heavy traffic area just a couple blocks from Peoria' busiest intersection at War Memorial & Knoxville.
There are times traffic westbound on War Memorial already backs up to the stadium.

Other than speculation, I have never heard that Bradley was interested - but given the current landlocked situation of Bradley - I wouldn't rule out any possibility where Bradley could acquire a large amount of land - especially open space, that might be converted to practice fields, a dome, a track, or whatever.
We had a similar situation when the old Zeller Zone Center closed on University - people speculated it might remain vacant or get knocked down to build apartments - but instead ICC stepped in and utilized it.

What are they spending the money on? Seating expansion to make it soccer specific?

Bradley is reported to be in the planning stage to put a DOME on the old Meinen Field property - currently where the cars park on the old cinder track.
Here was our discussion from several months ago - as with a lot of BU projects - this one is not being mentioned much.

Yep. The practice facility adjacent to Shea Stadium is what I was referring to.
