Actually they give out several Under Armour Athletic Director of the Year awards in different categories...
Here are some of the winners...
FBS Division - Jeff Compher of NIU
FCS Division - Mario Moccia of SIU
Division I-AAA - Ken Kavanagh of FGCU & John Stanley of Evansville
A lot of SIU fans were extremely displeased with Moccia and his handling of the contract situation of Chris Lowery and the fact that he was given such a lucrative deal that kept him at SIU a few years longer than many fans wanted because of the prohibitive cost of buyout him out. Some feel Moccia is thus responsible for several years of really bad basketball seen at SIU.
I am not sure what the criteria are that has landed Moccia this award this year.
SIU still finished last in basketball, mediocre in football (6-5), bad in baseball (25-33), horrific in women's basketball (5-26),
mediocre in softball (25-27), and not really good in much at all - and the fewest team titles in the MVC of any of the public schools, of any of the football schools, and of any of the teams in contention at all for the MVC All Sports Award!
