  • Basketball trivia - Bradley connection

We all know with the development of the NBA D-league, many of the other older minor league pro teams have dwindled and shut down...

One of them is the old CBA (Continental Basketball Association) - which was a merger of the old Eastern Basketball League (Association) and a few other smaller leagues..

The CBA was quite successful - providing plenty of players and coaches that "graduated" to the NBA -
such as George Karl, Brad Davis, Juwann Oldham, Billy Ray Bates, Henry Bibby, & Jeff Wilkins
..for 20 years it served the same function as a minor league that the NBDL serves today.

The CBA folded after 2001 then struggled along a few more years with some teams changing leagues, but a few of their teams as well as a few other teams live on in the CBL - a basketball minor league that has continued many of the traditions of the old CBA.

They have decided to name their post-season awards after some of the great players from the old EBL & ABA -- for example, their championship trophy will be the George Gervin Trophy, and their MVP will be the Roger Brown Award..

BUT they have chosen a name for their league scoring championship award
that honors a GREAT player from Bradley's past...

Guess who they named the SCORING LEADER AWARD after...

Here's the answer - mouse over to read

They have named the scoring leader award -
The Levern Tart Scoring Leader Award
...and the trophy is nicknamed "The Jelly" - (The Jelly was Tart's nickname when he played)
