  • NCAA 5th year transfer rule = college basketball Free Agency

More high level NCAA coaches are starting to come out strongly against the NCAA's 5th year transfer rule that allows a graduate player to be immediately eligible at another school-
On the heels of Antonio Barton's transferring from Memphis to Tennessee earlier today, there are many coaches around the country that are shaking their heads.

I predicted this would be the effect of this rule years ago. And it's funny that top coaches like Bill Self are now criticizing this rule, since the majority of such transfers hurt the mid-major schools harder, and benefit the big boys like Self, as they fill open roster slots by recruiting players from mid-majors.

Groce has tried to cash in big time using this rule and literally recruiting 5th year players from other schools as well as other mid-major transfers...

I think in the end it will backfire as those midmajor players will never battle for the top of the Big Ten. Groce is being given credit for such a great season - when he had a bunch of talented kids left over from Bruce Weber and only finished in the bottom half of the Big Ten at 8-10
