  • Does Mo want BU to fail.....?

Quote......."anyone who says when they leave a place the way I left Bradley that they're cheering for that place is probably lying."

Right there it is, plastered on the front sports page of the Peoria Urinal Star. He must have really been squirming last year during the Sweet run....

If you read the entire article, it sounds like Molinari is upbeat and moved on.

He had it good here, and he has admitted previously he perhaps got a little too comfortable here. Ultimately, that cost him his job.

He has moved on, but apparently some haven't.

I think Mo is right. No coach wants to see the school that fired them have success after they leave. It's like a vindication for the school, and a perceived proof that the coach was the problem.
I am sure it's not just Mo, but virtually every coach that didn't leave on their own likely feels that way. Mo is just being honest. I doubt he wants Bradley to fail.

Murph, that's not a fair nor an accurate interpretation at all of how Jim Molinari feels.

I have spoken with Jim many times since he left the job at BU.
In the first 2.5 years, he continued to live in Peoria and travelled extensively as a scout for two different NBA teams.
Then for the past 2 years he has lived in Minnesota.
He always asks about BU because he knows I follow them closely -- but he doesn't mainly because of the time he spends doing his jobs.
He keeps in personal touch by phone with those who he recruited (such as Heemskerk, PG, Gilly, AP) but he just doesn't follow Bradley any more nor root for them, as he has his own team (Minnesota) to devote his time to.
But he sure doesn't harbor ill will towards them.
On a number of occasions he has told me he wishes the kids and the new head coach well, but I suppose he does still harbor some feelings that he was not treated fairly by certain people at BU (meaning outside of the Athletic Dept.). He was fired right after being given a personal assurance by the highest authority at BU that he would be allowed to stay at least through 2003.
Even Jim's own kids have gone to BU games and they all love basketball and wish the players well. Jim also did say to the reporter (Mike Nadel) that he personally congratulated Jim Les for how the team did last year.

You will never meet a man who is of any higher ethical standards and who is any nicer to his fellow man than Jim Molinari, so I find it unfair that this article might cause some to think he harbors any ill towards BU or the people here in Peoria, because that is NOT TRUE.

What I do find odd is that of all the people to do this article, it was NOT one of the Peoria writers.
It was Mike Nadel, who writes for Copley but is based in Chicago and from all I can tell is sure NOT a BU fan or a Jim Molinari fan. He seems to write more about the Bears, Cubs, and Sox than just about all other topics combined.
Why didn't one of the PJ Star writers do this story?
I did an exhaustive search on all articles ever logged by Mike Nadel, I cannot find where he has ever written on Jim Molinari nor ever even mentioned Jim's name even in passing.
Nadel really never even writes on Bradley or the Big Ten either, so why him?

Big Wind, with all due respect there are many in the area including myself that will disagree with this statement. Mo is not an angel, I am certain your moderating team won't let me get into details about this but facts are facts.

Murph, might I propose that if you are judging on the basis of hearsay or rumor, then consider that factions have agendas to possibly create or magnify such, not to mention a lot gets way, way out of proportion in he says/she says issues.
I have at least some good evidence that much of what people "heard" and "know" is false, but then who really knows?
I can only judge on what I have seen and know and still hold to my statements.

As far as college sports go, I'm pretty sure Nadel is an Illinois fan. My dad talked with him a few months ago in Champaign during some orientation (Nadel's son and my sister are both freshmen there). Didn't get his opinion on Bradley, though.

And I'd interpret that quote more as a sign of indifference than "wanting BU to fail." I really doubt Molinari is actively rooting against the Braves....

That would really be sad if Mo really said or wants BU to fail, because there a lot of us BU fans who really want Mo to be very successful.

As I have said, I have talked with Mo on this very subject, and I know for a fact he does NOT want BU to fail, and he wishes them well.
He just doesn't check the web and the boards to see what's going on and he is a dedicated fan only of the school he's at.

After reading the article, I intrepreted Mo's words to indicate that he is indifferent.

Maybe I have unrealistically high expectations of journalists given that they are "professional" writers, but I found Nadel's comments,

"Molinari was called many names by Bradley faithful, most of whom held open the door when he was fired in 2002 after 11 mostly competitive but often frustrating seasons. "Coward," however, wasn't one of them."

the sort of literary claptrap that seperates good writers from bad writers.

I think the number of people who wanted Mo out in 2002 was smaller than those who wanted him to stay, IMHO,
                      but Nadel suggests the opposite.
I think Jim was good for Bradley basketball, and unfortunately it brings back up the same danged
argument, of how good would Bradley have been if Mo would have been allowed to stay and coach
the likes of Danny Granger, Joah Tucker, Antoine Tisby, Phillip Giulbert, Marcello Robinson, James Gillingham, Joey Paul, etc.
all the way through their senior seasons.
I can't help but think Mo would have righted the ship and had some tremendous years,
possibly even to rival the Sweet Sixteen finish last year.
Now we can only wonder, as those who wanted him out got what they wanted, didn't they?
Funny how some of those same people who wanted Mo out, were also clammoring to show Jim Les the door last season!
