  • 2013 Bid for the Braves event scheduled September 21st

This year's Bid for the Braves event has been scheduled for Saturday, September 21st at 5:00 PM at the Renaissance Coliseum. So save the date if you would like to attend.
However, many other facets of this event have been changed.

The Bid for the Braves auction event was begun many years ago by former AD Ken Kavanagh. It was one of the largest fundraising sources for the athletic department every year. Initially it was always scheduled in October, after the start of basketball practice as one of the first events of the fall basketball season, along with the preseason basketball Gala Banquet. In 2009, after the changes in the administration of the athletic department, the Preseason Gala Banquet as a separate event was eliminated, and combined with the auction. Then last year, the event was moved back a month, well before the start of basketball, to September 22, 2012.

This year, the Bid for the Braves will change again- it will no longer be at the Paradice Hotel, where it has always been, but will be moved to the Renaissance Coliseum. There is no mention of the dinner and "Gala" part of the event, so it looks like those parts will be eliminated. Does anyone know? Or does anyone know why it was moved? Is this a cost-saving measure?

I'm not sure what makes it a Gala. I do know that it will be a 'themed' event again this year (Jimmy Buffett). I presume that the food and drink will be handled by the university catering service. In my opinion, holding it at the Coliseum would certainly provide for a fun, spacious setting; and most definitely save some money.

EDIT: Below is the registration link where the auction, team introductions, dinner and cocktails are clearly listed.

More bad decisions and changes from the athletic department. When will they learn?

I guess I don't understand why this is a bad decision? Last year's event brought in more money than ever before.

the Preseason gala as its own event used to be awesome - if you didn't make it to any other event all year - then this was the one to be at...

the women players would be dolled up and look great - as would the guys, there's be great video features thanks to Dave Snell, a great speaker - often a past BU Great, a truly memorable meal like the last one we had down at the Pere Marquette (when Will Franklin won the unofficial best-dressed honors with his dazzling, shiny white tuxedo) and every table would have one of the players/staff seated so as to make each and ever attendee feel welcomed & special...
Those we some of the MOST enjoyable and memorable Bradley events ever...

Here are a couple discussions from those great galas

For those who are interested - here are some recent pictures of the Bradley basketball player who caused the stir with her wardrobe...she is currently pursuing a music career. Unfortunately I do not believe there are any links to photos of "the dress".
