sure San Jacinto played 30 games but Lofton missed four games and played in only 26 games...thus 13.4 shots/game
and that is more shots per game than all but two MVC players ...both of hwom were far better scorers as I noted

even Illinois' Brandon Paul who shot all the time - didn't average 13 shots per game..neither did Tyler Brown..that's a lot of shooting

Teddy Hawkins official an ISU player... with an odd exception...

Page Not Found (404): It looks like you're lost... The page you are looking for no longer exists.

Hawkins originally signed a National Letter of Intent (NLI) to play at Wichita State in 2011, but he was granted partial relief from the Missouri Valley Conference's intra-conference transfer rule after Hawkins did not enroll at WSU. Hawkins will be permitted to compete for the Redbirds in the 2014-15 season; however, he is required to miss both of ISU's regular-season games against Wichita State.

must have been the deal that Wichita required to go along with letting him out of his LOI so he didn't have the 2-year ban

Is this for real? That last paragraph reads like something on deadspin or the onion.

Pretty strange. I'd just like to know who has been paying his tuition and expenses at ISU this year, since he was not an official recruit before now, and by not being a qualifier, he is not entitled to a scholarship until next year?

Basically just a greyshirt. Justin Bocot did it at Southern Illinois, countless others have done it everywhere. As long as he has no association with the athletics program (no practice, no weights, no meetings, etc.) then it doesn't matter who pays his tuition. As soon as he is an official ISU athlete then the rules come into play. Programs find so many ways around rules.

This is not quite the same as a grayshirt situation, used mostly by football recruits. A grayshirt student is a full qualifier who simply delays the start of their college career by paying their own way for a half year or full year, while he take some classes that enable him to work with the college-level conditioning programs and gets accustomed to college academics. Grayshirts take only a few classes so they are not considered full time students and thus avoid starting their NCAA "clock". The NCAA does not count the start of an athlete's 5-year "clock" until they are enrolled as a full time student. A grayshirt student does not use up any of his eligibility time, and thus could still redshirt a full year if he chooses to do so, later in his career.
But the way I understand it, Hawkins is not a qualifier. In order for him to gain eligibility for 2014-15, he will need to be a full time student and maintain a minimum GPA in his classes that satisfies NCAA requirements. That means his "clock" began as soon as he enrolled this fall as a full time student. He will have 4 years to play, but will lose his ability to redshirt without losing that year completely.

ex-BU recruit & point guard Danny Lawhorn leaves Washington State only a month into the school year!

Washington State took a big blow to start their 2013-14 campaign as the school announced Friday that junior college transfer and junior point guard Danny Lawhorn was leaving the team.

This kid averaged 9.7 assists per game in junior college (good enough to lead the nation by a wide margin) - I think maybe we ought to give the kid a call

a tweet from Danny Lawhorn hints that he may want to play at ISU - they do not currently have an open scholarship and don't have any seniors that would give them one next year either

Technically Muller has one open for this year; Hawkins is paying his own way.

That scholarship was pegged to go to Hawkins, but he was ruled ineligible to accept financial aid this year. But there were reports that will go to Hawkins next year when he is eligible to accept a scholarship.

The MVC has revisited this issue after several MVC coaches felt this was an unfair resolution to the Teddy Hawkins situation at ISU. He now will be eligible to play against all MVC teams next year, including Wichita State.

I am thinking the voice of other Valley coaches was heard. I never really understood the original solution to begin with.
