  • Interesting GF Comment Re 2013-14 Recruiting

"While Ford pointed out that recruiting is fluid and changes can happen before school starts in August, the expectation is that BU is finished for the 2013-14 season." PJS Article

Wonder which current 2013-4 BU scholarship holders might be considered 'fluid' if someone drops in from no where?

Maybe he is preparing the audience for the possibility that one or more may not get cleared by NCAA?

Sounds pretty likely that at least one won't qualify. Otherwise why make it a point to say such a thing.

Coach Ford was on WMBD this morning with Dan D'Orio discussing the incoming recruits. He did a great job. I am pumped up for next season already. Looks like the Braves will have size and bulk for a change.

I don't know much about links, but it was WMBD 1470 radio.

I don't know if the link will show up on the WMBD website, but it might appear here on the page that links to segment podcasts-

recruiting is and always has been one of the hardest and most time consuming - and sometimes frustrating parts of coaching....
it never pays to even come in 2nd - and as I have said for years - most mid-majors HAVE TO land a bunch of "diamonds in the rough" and "under-the-radar players" and has to take on kids who even carry some risks...
Geno has every right to be proud - I think he did as well as could be done - given that Central IL is no recruiting paradise and in the late spring there just aren't a lot of blue chippers waiting for the phone to ring..
Only time will tell how we did.........

All I know is Geno got me pumped up this morning. I remember Dick Versace got players from the Chicago area that the "big boys" didn't want like Hersey, Jerry Thomas, Greg Jones, Len Bertolini, etc. I hope Geno can duplicate DV's success.

But Cedar Falls and Terre Haute are recruiting paradises? And why now is it "time will tell" but previous players were touted as the next best thing before even stepping foot on campus?

I spend the Winter months in Mesa and Arizona St is the same as Bradley, and probably most programs. When they sign a recruit they always gve the upside, which makes sense. Have you ever seen a recruit have a negative story when they sign, no matter who the coach is?

I don't believe anyone has ever said recruits don't need to prove themselves. But I think if a player was an All American at his previoius level (like Marcellus Sommerville, who was a 1st team All NJCAA his freshman year), or won a state title, or was All-State in HS, or was a finalist for Mr. basketball, or set scoring records like some previous recruits, then that certainly was something to tout.

Valid point, but the reversed general tone around here is what I am making note of. I said previous players, who members of this board said they PERSONALLY watched play and gave a talent evaluation on, seemed to be treated with kid gloves but now its a "well, we have to wait and see...." Its just a complete 180 from past positions on recruits from some folks.

It would be preferable if posters say who you think will be the best of the current recruits, than to sit back and snipe at others. Who of the incoming players will contribute next season? What players will be our scorers?

What an interesting and original topic. I'm sure it has never been discussed before.
