actually - now that I also see this news item -
Golden ATLANTA -- The NCAA has ruled Trae Golden, who played the last three seasons at Tennessee, is eligible to play in the 2013-14 season at Georgia Tech. Golden, a guard, is a native of Powder Springs, Ga., who attended McEachern High School. He transferred to Georgia Tech this summer to be closer to his family. Coach Brian Gregory announced Thursday the NCAA approved the waiver of the year-in-residency requirement for transfers.
I have to believe the NCAA folks are simply taking the path of least resistance - they are just approving almost everyone to stay out of arguments and avoid getting bad pub...
have no idea why Starks and Shaw didn't get a waiver - but I think it shows a degree of intentional bias... go figure...
It'll be interesting to see how Joey King does in the Big Ten..he averaged only 7ppg, 3 rpg for Drake...hitting only 42% of his shots, low for a frontcourt player.
He wasn't among the Top 20 in any statistical category in the MVC...and wasn't among the leaders on his own team in anything.
Recall that Marcus Arnold was a stud in the MVC as a sophomore averaging 12.3ppg & 5rpg, then he went to U of I and was not quite as good - barely getting 2 ppg and 1 rpg by his senior year.
Likewise Sam McLaurin last year - he averaged nearly a double-double at a mid-major then goes to U of I and gets a ton of playing time but produces very little (3.7ppg/3.4rpg) and way more TO than assists.

He has now played for 3 years at Minnesota and the more he plays, the more the teams are getting way worse by leaps and bounds...
- but..... he's gotten the chance for a lot of playing time....
When current head coach Richiard Pitino was hired, Minnesota was coming off a decent 21 win season and Tubby left good enough players behind that Pitino had a 25-13 season in his debut year there. Then they dropped to 18-15, and now a really dismal 8-21....even some rumbles from fans & press that they do not want to keep heading in the same direction and that Richard Pitino may be on the HOT SEAT in just his 3rd year!!
This year - the Minnesota Gophers were particularly bad - but Joey got a chance to play a bunch - especially since several key players got suspended...
he has averaged 11 ppg, 4 rpg....for a career average of about 8 ppg...
But now he has broken his foot and is done - he won't be able to play again this season or in the Big Ten Tourney.
He could have been a Seth Tuttle or a Jackie Carmichael-like player in the MVC...but he has now finished his career at Minnesota.
