Rutgers hired former player Eddie Jordan as their new coach after firing Mike Rice. Rutgers stated in the bio that was placed on the University's athletic website that Jordan-
"earned All-America honors as a senior in 1977 before earning a degree in health and physical education.”
However, the website Deadspin investigated and learned from the Rutgers registrar that Jordan never got his degree. Initially, Rutgers refused to admit they had made a mistake and released a statement saying that Jordan was inducted into the Rutgers Hall of Distinguished Alumni in 2004 and that he had been part of the Rutgers “family” since before 1977.
“His athletic skills and leadership and his professional accomplishments have been a source of pride for Rutgers for more than three decades.” But then later Friday they finally manned up and admitted they were "in error" and that Jordan did not have a degree, but they stated that the NCAA does not require a degree. Their own official job listings for coaches in the past have always stated a bachelor's degree is a requirement.
