Today the news is that three more suspects have been arrested in the Boston bombing. Two of the three arrested (per early reports) are students at UMASS-Dartmouth and roommates of the younger brother who is still alive.
My son is a junior at UMASS-Dartmouth.
In additon, luckily my daughter who had been a student at Suffolk U in Boston had transferred just this semester to a college in Florida (primarily for the weather). So she wasn't in Boston for the Marathon this year-something she has attended the past two years. Suffolk is located right on the Boston Commons.
Then there is the fact that my nephew (a Peoria native), who is a former cross country runner at both Drake and Purdue, finished 20th in the Indianapolis Marathon and hence qualified (meaning his spot is reserved) for the Boston Marathon. The only reason that he didn't run was that he couldn't afford the trip or the time off from his job in Indy.
He was planning on staying with us on the Cape and of course the whole family would have gone up to Boston (only 60 miles away) if my nephew had run the race.
