  • Who were the best JC transfers in BU BB history?

With all the talk of JC player Deshawn Delaney potentially joining (even if the potential may be fading) JC transfers Chris Blake and Auston Barnes with the Braves next season, I started to think back on the best JC transfers in Bradley Basketball history.

Here is the list that I came up with (feel free to add any that I've missed/make corrections):

The first 10 are 'kinda' ranked in order of a top 10(feel free to disagree):

1 David Thirdkill- S. Idaho CC
    2 Barney Mines-Saddlebrook JC
3 Tony Bennett Pratt JC (KS)
4 Gene Gathers Moberly JC (Mo)
5 Marcellus Sommerville SW Ill. College (began career at Iowa-as a couple poster reminder me-then SW Ill before BU)
6 Zach Andrews Yuba College (Az or is it Cal?)
7 Marcus Pollard Seward County CC (Ks)
    8 Lawrence Wright Yuba College
9 Theron Wilson Seward County CC (Ks)
10 Roosevelt Davison Brevard JC (Fl)

I wanted to add Willie Scott but now realize that Hillsdale College (where Willie transferred from was a 4 year school-and Willie actually sat a year after transferring-I'd add Scott to my list of top transfers to BU)

Willie Betts would be on the list if you count players who started at BU, transfer to a JC and then transferred back to Bradley.
Betts was a starting forward on the Jerry Tarkanian coached 35-1 Pasadena JC (CAL) team-then came back to BU

Some other JC transfers (in no particular order):
Tyshon Pickett Dodge City CC (Kan)
    Matt Salley Monroe College (NY)
Booker Johnson Three Rivers CC (Mo)
    Pat Marshall Henderson JC (Tx)
    Melvin Harden Pratt JC(KS)
    Billy Gay Burlington JC (Ia)
    Jim Perryman Lincoln JC (Ill)
Sam Allen Kennedy King (JC) Ill
and the very first that I could come up with:
Charles Gransby from New York City Community College-who played in the late 50s.(and scored all of 6 pts as a Bradley Brave)

Were Bobby Ford, Rashad Austin, James Hamilton or Dion Thurman JC transfers? Others?

    ADDITIONS:
    Will Franklin Kilgore College (Tx)
    Taylor Brown Bevill St CC
(thanks to Amckillip for the 2 'adds'
Chris Roberts Navarro College-thanks to 'its boogie time' for the addition

I would put Theron ahead of Bennett, and Sommerville way ahead of him. Also I think leaving out Will Franklin is a big oversight, his senior year he was the best player on the team IMO. Taylor Brown's stats are also pretty hard to ignore compared to many on the list (he was a qualifier, but did transfer from JuCo). I would put him ahead of ZA, and probably TonyB as well.

Boogie was great beyond the numbers, and is my #1, but don't think he should be in any sort of objective sense...

I believe only Rashad Austin was but he does not belong in this discussion..

I thought Cellus was from IOWA.....So I'd vote Tony Bennet and Will Franklin tie!

Not exactly, he was at Iowa for one year, then went Juco, then transferred to BU.

I think you have to mention Chris Roberts from Navarro JC since he did have the 75' shot and all those dunks. He would make the top 10 highlight reel.

                  Will......

Will Franklin is in the top 10 easy. It helps when your a major contributor to a SWEETSIXTEEN team.

Dion Thurman is the single most talented athlete I've seen in 35 years of watching Bradley hoops. Too bad he couldn't stay out of trouble.
