Ahmad Starks to come home

Illinois is still waiting on the NCAA to decide if they will issue a waiver from their usual rule the requires a transfer to sit out a year. However, there are rumors that Illinois coach John Groce is optimistically expecting the NCAA will grant the waiver. However, the NCAA recently changed their rules requiring a transfer to move within 100 miles of his home if he is requesting the waiver because of family issues (Champaign is 135 miles away from Chicago).

Starks has only 1 year of eligibility remaining, so if he is declared eligible for this coming 2013-14 season, that will open up an additional scholarship for 2014 (in addition to the one they are holding open hoping to land Cliff Alexander). Illinois has recently renewed interest in a 2014 point guard named Tyler Ulis, and some fans think this is another sign Groce expects Starks to play this year.

I have heard that the Illini staff are cautiously optimistic about the waiver, given how much intense heat the NCAA has received on the few they have denied...

"Starks expects a waiver decision within next ten days.."
..but it's now been 11 days and no word...

Groce just stated he expects word before the end of the month.

several players are still waiting on decisions from NCAA - but as many of the NCAA decisions that have been ripped by the media then reversed, I'd have to think they will grant all these...

It really seems like they must make these decisions by coin flip at the NCAA.

the flood of recent transfers is going to prompt some change...
the smaller schools are becoming the farm system for bigger schools...all the better mid-major players are getting phone calls and are seen as recruitable athletes.
But there are advocates who think the players should be able to transfer any and every time they want to freely with no restrictions -

Reverse the tables on them. Start calling some of the players who do not play as much and tell them they can come to another school and play alot more. I am sure there are players sitting on the bench at Duke,Michigan, etc that could go to another school amd play more

Plus when one finds out when a bigger school has tampered with another school publish what school and who it was. If the NCAA does not do anything with them print it in the papers and defy the school to sue. Laying back and not saying anything just encourages the low life and corrupt prima dona schools. As you can tell I have no use for them
