one question - we seem to hear a ton about a player's "versatility" and how valuable it is to be versatile.....that's one of the MOST overused adjactives in the basketball world!!!

but....at other times we hear just the opposite - that someone might be a ball handler supreme, a shooting specialist, or a great rebounder....so obviously it's not bad if you are a role player and you play a very important role & play it well...
Examples: Players like Jackie Carmichael, Tyler Brown, Colt Ryan, etc... are all guys we have often said we'd love to have but are they weren't all that "versatile" ....just really good at the things they do?

In contrast - Shayok & Jalen Crawford were BOTH said to be very "VERSATILE" -
and yet they barely played & we just cut them loose -
    Link - Link -
Even Dave Reynolds called Shayok "versatile" - Link -
and likewise lots of people -GENO included - called Jalen "versatile" -
"He (Jalen) is a versatile player who can shoot the ball and create for others.???
    Link - Link

So if our entire recruiting class is "versatile" then is that always good or would we have done as well with a great shooter, a great rebounder, and a great ball handler/point guard?
I trust in Geno's ability to build his own roster his way it will interesting how this first full recruiting class will impact and potentially turn our program around I will not judge or speculate until Geno gets ALL his guys on board. Only fair rather than compare

How do you consider this his "first full recruiting class"?

good point - Geno had 5 players in his first recruiting class but didn't have much time here at BU,
then he had 2 more come in a year ago and then TWO more (Fields & Grier) last summer.......
now an incoming class of 5 more - (Tucker, Zecevic, Shaw, Blake, Swopshire) - and maybe even one more (Delaney)
will mean by summer Geno will have had 15 recruits brought on board...

These are his guys yes, but he hasn't had them all very long.....WE,WL, both much improved since Geno ........ Still bunch of ??? yes. always will be this is college hoops But with Walt leading the way this undersized team is looking pretty good on paper! Win now and often Geno! Maybe I'm just drunk on the FORD tough KOOLAID but we moved up one spot when CU sold out and 2 more spots on fresh bench production! where does that put us? In the hunt? Does anyone expect to win yet?? I do ...Not so much on the road I guess but in Peoria atleast!

I think we are getting to the point where we should expect to win and I think we surely did that last year. 6th best improvement in the Country, won 5 more league games this year than last year and I think we are bringing in players and hopefully not projects. I was glad to see us get in an EIEIO Tourney because it was in my mind a start up the ladder. Maybe next year the NIT or possibly an NCAA berth. I might be getting a little ahead of myself here but yajusneverknow. Geno's getting the job done as far as my expectations.

What I am looking for is a deeper bench.....this class plus Fields & Grier should take us past the 7 or 8 deep playing rotation with-out the drop-off in skill....should net some more W's in my book giving the starters a chance to stay fresh!

I agree with your comment and would add that we can't underestimate the value of WL next year. With so many new faces he will not only be depended on to be an offensive leader, but also a leader in the locker room.

I was told by one of the departing Braves that Blake will be a great leader next season.
