Bradley schedule for 2013-2014

there are plenty of other ways to make the students - many of whom live just steps away from the Ren-Col - welcome there and want to come see the games...
for years when we played in the FH - the students lined up all the way down the block just to get their student ID cards validated & punched so they could come that night to the game.
Then again - it does matter if the opponent is Louisville, Wichita or Cincy vs. SEMO and UTPA

I don't want to get into a whole "you know what they should do..." debate, but beyond free food and drinks, what would incentivize students to come to games on campus?

Could they give out book scholarships for 2nd semester? One male and one female student from each class (freshmen - seniors).

Maybe just tell them "your team is playing." Thought that's why they built the gym, so the poor guys wouldn't have to trek all the way downtown to a real arena.

Article about Arizona State-
Head Coach Herb Sendek's teams have never been known as extremely up-tempo teams. But last year, they played a quicker style, and finished tied for 6th in the Pac 12, when they were picked for 11th. This season, they plan to play an even faster style-
http://collegebasketballtalk.nbcspo...na-state-aims-to-play-even-faster-in-2013-14/

ASU PG Jahii Carson is the real deal. Reminds me of Spurs' Tony Parker...

Sendek is lucky he didn't go to the NBA this year after his freshman season.

Pressure is on Sendek to turn things around at ASU.. Lots of his players/recruits have transferred out/been released over the past 2-3 years. Arizona Wildcats are taking over as place for AZ's best HS players to go.

Here's an interesting opinion by the President of Arizona State..
One of the D-II schools in Arizona, a private school called Grand Canyon University, is making the transition to Division I..
GCU is a private school that is an unusual venture - it is a school that answers to stockholders and they are a "for profit" business, but a very good academic school regardless,
and spearheading new, profitable ventures like online classes.

But the President of ASU, Michael Crow, slams that idea - he thinks it is unfair that they might actually gain a tiny little bit of the profit that Arizona schools get from the NCAA....
He seems to have a strong bias towards a school that can actually be run well enough to not lose money!
http://www.azcentral.com/sports/col...anyon-does-not-belong-in-ncaa-division-i.html

Jeff Eisenberg writes an opinion for YahooSports! then proceeds to slam Arizona State & the Pac 12 for their self-serving and transparent stance.
http://sports.yahoo.com/blogs/ncaab...and-canyon-university-division-153010564.html

he reasons that the real purpose of the Pac 12 opposition is they are worried that the private/for profit formula might work, and that GCU might just some day compete with the state schools, and beat them out for recruits.

a rebuttal - the ASU & Pac 12 folks should be ashamed of themselves and their dishonesty & hypocrisy...and greed
http://sportsillustrated.cnn.com/co...30722/grand-canyon-university-pac-12-protest/

"..Arizona State has long been the only Division I university in the Phoenix
market. And in the bigger picture, it seems a bit self-righteous that the same
group of presidents that in 2011 signed a $3 billion contract with ESPN and FOX
-- and which last year launched a profitable television network of their own --
would play the "non-profit" card in calling out someone else's motives."

President Crow should spend more energy fixing up the dump that is ASU's football stadium, out recruiting Arizona for in state top MBB & FB recruits, getting top Az preps to stay in state, and getting more students (enrollment is 70k) and area alumni to fill up their small (8000), on campus basketball stadium

Grand Canyon University is the least of his athletic program concerns.

as I read this thread -- it is supposed to be about our schedule but it is so hard to actually find our schedule in this thread since it's run on so long, that I thought I'd re-post the actual non-conference schedule

Nov. 8 ALABAMA STATE..............327
Nov. 10 JACKSONVILLE STATE......147
Nov. 12 CENTRAL MICHIGAN.........260
Nov. 15 CHICAGO STATE.............321
Nov. 17 at Illinois.......................40
Nov. 22 at Arizona State.............89
Nov. 30 UTPA............................304
Dec. 4 IUPUI.............................329
Dec. 7 at Milwaukee...................307
Dec. 10 IPFW...........................254
Dec. 20 vs. Portland(Las Vegas)..232
Dec. 21 vs. Pacific (Las Vegas)....97
Dec. 28 SOUTH FLORIDA............150

There has been no mention yet as to who we are going to play in the two early exhibition games - at least one of which will be played at Ren-Col ..

Last year's two exhibition opponents were Upper Iowa & Wisc-Parkside
Geno's first year we played Parkside & Wooster but we definitely won't be playing Wooster as their schedule is complete.
The opponents should be named soon as schools need to get started printing up schedules soon....
It won't be Lewis as has been the case in the past - they have their schedule complete and play both DePaul & Northwestern

I have heard one of the teams that was a possible opponent was Pat Beilein & Virginia Wesleyan but nothing confirmed..

Maybe but Wooster had to travel 500 miles to get here but were happy to do so - West Virginia Wesleyan is 600 miles away - but they come for the payday -
Bradley draws (or always has historically drawn) way better than 80-85% of D-I schools - so in the end it is a good payday to offset the expenses.

When does the Valley schedule release?

It has usually been released in past years by mid August. I heard from another MVC coach that this year there was a significant delay, and the preliminary version that schools get and are allowed time to ask for changes had not even been received by the 2nd week of this month.
So hopefully it should come out soon.

Dave Reynolds confirms that the MVC schedule should be release sometime next week-

Some news on the schedule-

The November 10 game against Jacksonville State, and the December 4 game against IUPUI will be the two games played at the Renaissance Coliseum.

And Bradley still hasn't heard from the MVC office when the conference schedule will be released...maybe next week

Yes- news from the fan appreciation breakfast confirms those two dates as the Ren Col games...

all premium seating packages already include premium seating for the Ren Col games as well....
all other season ticket packages will have the opportunity for choice seats at the Ren Col games - commensurate with where you sit in Carver.
So if your season tix at Carver are on the end or in upper bowl you can have (1st come) similar seats or better for Ren Col but if you have Sec 1 season tix then you can choose much better Ren Col seats.

The frustration with the LEAGUE people on the schedule is very noticable...

if we don't have much of a clue as to any aspects of the MVC league schedule, then all the extra stuff that requires tons of hard work & planning - has to wait & wait...
this includes securing hotel rooms for away games, booking travel, printing the schedules, all the complex arrangements that go into the game day lunches, getting the speakers arranged, lining up the promos for the home games, etc....
You could tell the staff was more than a little peeved that our league schedule might still be a week or more away...
