  • More of the legacy of Isiah Thomas at FIU

Isiah Thomas coached at Florida International University for 3 years (2009-2012) He went a miserable 26-65 and never won more than 11 games in a season, and was fired a year ago.
Then Richard Pitino took over for this past year, and resurrected the moribund program left behind by Thomas, won 18 games with a collection of nobodies (including their leading scorer and former Bradley recruit Tymell Murphy), went 11-9 in the Sun Belt Conference, and Richard Pitino parlayed that success into the Minnesota head coaching job.

But now more of the legacy of Isiah Thomas has surfaced- Their APR apparently dropped so far that they are expecting to be penalized by the NCAA- likely they will be ineligible for the NCAA tournament next year.-

Its unfortunate that someone else has to clean up his mess again. How does Isiah Thomas keep getting jobs after destroying the CBA, underperforming with the Pacers, killing the Knicks, and stinking up FIU? I always thought he had naked pics of James Dolan when in NYC, but no clue what FIU saw in him. Now that he's an analyst, I hope he sticks to talking about whats happening on the court and not about how things work off the court because he clearly doesn't get that.

FWIW - Here's an article on how the hiring several years ago of Isiah Thomas is still hurting FIU..including the big buyouts paid to get rid of coaches...
..they still have arguably the worst football & basketball teams in the nation and are ineligible for post-season play due to academic issues dating back to the Isiah-era...
Now they hurt themselves even further in hiring Ron Turner (ex-Illini FB coach with several dubious records like only Illini coach to lose 11 games - and he did it twice, and only one to go winless...) who has FIU playing quite poorly.
Florida International University's football team is teetering on complete irrelevance as the worst team in college football and the men's basketball team is ineligible for the NCAA tournament due to academics. But, according to FIU president Mark Rosenberg, the schools is not considering any change with regards to head football coach Ron Turner or athletic director Pete Garcia.
