Wichita State coach Gregg Marshall confirms he was contacted by UCLA about their head coach opening. He refused to talk with them while his team was still playing in the NCAA tournament, and apparently, UCLA wanted to hire someone quickly, so they moved on to Steve Alford-

One interesting part from that article about an interview with Marshall where a reporter asked him about supposedly being "not well-liked in the coaching industry".-
Marshall called to talk about his Tuesday radio interview on “The Dan Patrick Show,” where Patrick played a clip from a national college basketball writer that said Marshall was not well-liked in the coaching industry, then asked Marshall about it.

“Not one time did he ask me about my basketball team going to the Final Four in the entire interview,” Marshall said Wednesday. “He did mention that we were Cinderella, which I refuted, but that was the extent talking about our team in the Final Four.”

Marshall said Patrick called him later Tuesday to apologize, and Wednesday Patrick apologized on his show.

Now very successful at Wichita State, Marshall is taking shots at his former employer Winthrop-

Interesting article about Marshall. Though his name keeps surfacing for the Minnesota job and others, he says he is happy at Wichita State-
LOS ANGELES — At a time when high-profile programs were gauging Gregg Marshall's interest in leaving Wichita State a few years ago, the Shockers coach had a conversation with two colleagues during the NCAA tournament that helped influence him to … Continue reading

I assume the issue was the huge buyout that went into effect April 1st for Alford. UCLA had to decide if they wanted to wait and risk getting turned down by Marshall and losing Alford in the process.

that is really bush league to interview a guy when he's in the Final Four and ask him to tell us why he's not well liked...
Personally I wouldn't care if we hired the least well liked guy in the industry - if he can get Bradley to the Final Four and do it without cheating like USC or Kansas then I'd take him

Gregg made a great decision to allow all of that locker room access during the FF run..watching his interaction with his team really improved my view of him as a coach.

Well he certainly wasn't going to "M-F" them on national television.

I know it has nothing to do with his coaching ability, but sitting behind the visiting bench for the last two seasons at Carver Arena, he easily was the most vulgar.

I don't sit near the visitors bench but the two best I have ever seen (or heard) as far as vulgarities were Royce Waltman & Larry Eustachy although
Royce was "courteous" enough to only aim his vile towards the refs and the situation- he never cursed out or used Rutgers-like humiliations and slurs towards his own players like Eustachy loudly & routinely did.

During one timeout this past season, Marshall called the players a bunch of "f-ing p&$$!@$".

We're moving our seats across the court for this coming season per my wife's request. At one game, (can't remember who) on several occasions she had to put her hands over our 6 year-old's ears.

The Tulane coach also used a few of those choice words aimed at his own players and it was readily heard in such a small arena (Ren-Col)
