but I think there's some significant difference between players transferring...

Those who find themselves now on a team with a new coach who DID NOT recruit them and realize they are not going to play and are not wanted....
then clearly that is more easily understood as to why they transfer -
BUT if a coach recruits, signs, lands, and plays a kid that he went after - then turns on the kid and tells him he isn't gonna play - that's quite different - it leaves the kid who did what he was asked - wondering why

Other than Crawford, none of those guys ever played major minutes, maybe Shayok at times. Stewart wasn't Geno's recruit either. I'm not sure how it went down, but if they did not earn major minutes with their play and the coach was honest about that, I don't fault anyone. I don't approve of taking away a scholarship you as a coach gave if the player is still committed to the team, but if a player leaves because the coach was honest about his on court future then I don't mind that.

I know - and we've discussed before - but if you are going to recruit a kid to come and play - then you gotta get 'em in the game enough to keep them...
if not - then it could even hurt down the road....other recruits may see the turnover rate and it could be a factor...

We already had an open scholarship so it doesn't affect getting Shaw...but I am kinda sad to see Shayok & Jalen go...they both have talent that our severely shallow bench still needed at times..........
did SS & JC have THAT much less ability & potential than the guys we're bringing in??

but wily - I am smh on this since I clearly recall people saying that Jalen & Shayok we significant upgrades over what we had been bringing in before under JL
..now we jettison them and start again -- so...I might as well say it now - anyone wanna bet this is gonna happen again next spring, just like last spring and the spring before?

There was this one - LINK - then the article by PJS about Shayok bulking up and was gonna have a monster year..

I did see flashes at times from both, early is SS's career I thought he could really be something. Hopefully Geno has more of what he wants and the roster will stay more consistent from this point onward. But I do think we need to develop guys on the roster as well. Outside of WL, none of the recent guys developed into what I thought they could be. We will have an astounding 8 guys on this year's roster than never played a game for BU before. NW is one guy I would like to see develop into a decent contributor, and JP looks like he has a huge shot to start at the 5 next year, so he needs to play much better next year also. I still think he has more potential than what he showed the second half of this year, and the staff needs to bring that out.

Yea kinda like the past going back to 2002 names such as Jabar Battle, Danny Granger, Antoine Tisby, Michael Rembert, Joah Tucker, RayBrown,Sailho Jasey, Edgarin McCain, Rashid Austin, Cole-Scott etc. it happens we will see what we see when Geno has 100 per cent of his players here

I would also like to see NW develop but I'm not holding my breath on that happening. Don't think we will see JP start at the 5 next yr. If we do well I think you can figure out where I'm going with that.... You surely have more talent than me in spotting talent because I just don't see JP getting quicker, jumping higher or guarding people any better next year. Oh and did I say being able to shoot and make anything farther then a layup. If the staff brings all that out of him they get my vote for coach of the year.

T people may have thought they were up grades b-4 they got on campus but it didn't take long for the majority of us to see we were spinning our wheels and going nowhere with them. I do appreciate what they were able to give us but I think it's for the best not only for them but also for the program. I've said many tiimes on here you've got to replace people leaving with better people in order to get better and I feel confident we're doing that. I think it's been brought up on here several times that these two were Geno's first two recruits after he was hired and I also remember you posting that your main man was also recruiting SS so don't see your point.
I wouldn't bet we have one or two leave next Spring and I also couldn't care less if we can bring in better players. That's just the way the program gets better. Get use to it.

Here's an interesting assessment by West Virginia's Bob Huggins...

If you read between the lines - he kinda bemoans having so many open scholarships currently - at a time when there's little talent left out there....I saw the same thiing in an assessment of what new Minnesota head coach Richard Pitino is facing with the open scholarships he now has

There are a lot of transfers out there. Unfortunately most of them have to sit for a year.
