  • Rutgers coach Mike Rice exposed

This story and video are blowing up all over Twitter, and might be the undoing of Rutgers coach Mike Rice. At the very least, it is a huge embarrassment for him and the Rutgers program.
    Story-

Video- there are some startling clips in this video. If I was a player for Rice, I don't know if I could have taken the abuse he dishes out without punching the little dude out.
Video of Rutgers University men's basketball practices from 2010-12 shows incidents in which coach Mike Rice hurls basketballs from close range at players, shoves his players, feigns punches, kicks them and screams obscenities and homophobic slurs.

For the record- it doesn't appear Rice's coaching tactics are very successful. He took over a Rutgers team in 2010 that was 15-17, and 5-13 in the Big East, and in his 3 years here are his records- not much improvement-
    Year..........Record...Big East
    2010-2011...15-17...5-13
    2011-2012...14-18...6-12
    2012-2013...15-16...5-13

wow - interesting - possibly a career killer - and will haunt him for a long time...

but honestly - I bet half of all D-I coaches use language like that - they just don't get caught and exposed nationally....

and I guess it's OK to liken a person to just about anything else - call them a dodo, a dufus, a dork, a jerk, or a even worse - but just don't comment on their sexual orientation!

I can't believe one of those players didn't haul off and deck him. No place for that in amateur athletics.

If this happened in professional athletics he would have gotten his ass beat

I want to make sure I understand you before I unload. Are you suggesting that calling somebody a "fa**ot" is the same as calling somebody a "jerk"? If so, I will have to explain some things to you that one would not ordinarily have to explain to any rational and decent human being. So I wanted to clarify first.

When my season ticket location was right behind the visitor bench for the first 20 years Bradley played at Carver Arena, I had the pleasure of hearing much of what the opposing coach said to his players and officials. I would estimate that 75% of coaches use vulgar or objectionable language, and 10-20% of coaches use language the same as what Rice is heard using.

And surely you do not mean to suggest that words that were used 20 years ago are ok just because they were used 20 years ago. At any rate, I trust that I've made my point, and I'll leave it at that unless I read anymore bigoted idiocy.

That just might be the worst video I've ever seen of a coach. If Rutgers doesn't fire him ,shame on them. He makes Bobby Knight look like a Saint.

Agreed. Any AD with any moral compass would have fired this disgrace IMMEDIATELY upon seeing this trash.

Rice's (and other coaches) choice of words were ignorant and while not inexcusable, its largely irrelevant here. He was physically assaulting players which there should be zero tolerance. These are the acts of a cowardice of a weak man trying desperately to be powerful.
If my 18 year old (imaginary) was considering playing at Rutgers, no way I'd let him go there now. Rutgers needs to can him now.

If the AD don't fire him the Pres. should fire both of them . That was even hard to watch.

Despite the statement yesterday that Mike Rice's job was not in jeopardy over this, there are now rumors that Mike Rice will be fired today by Rutgers in the wake of all the attention and outrage.

I have never understood the double standard in education that allows sports coaches to use language and styles that would get any classroom teacher fired. I've heard high school coaches swear at and berate players for bonehead plays at games. If Dave Vroman launched into a tirade against a flute player for missing a note, would he get a pass?
Versace said "I'm your basketball coach, not your pope." I know there's a difference, but agree that alarming videos could be made of many coaches if everything they said or did was recorded and made public.
                            Yajusneverno!

As I have said, my seats have always been close enough to the floor behind the benches that we can hear much of what coaches say, and the language used by some coaches is foul, and not necessary. But the this would be a small blip on the national media radar if it was just about the language, including the "fa**ot" expletive. All it would take is an apology and we'd probably see everyone move on.
But this is about a much more severe pattern of physical and demeaning verbal abuse that his players endured, seemingly at every practice. IMO, that is what makes this case stand apart and deserve so much media scrutiny.
