Bradley Sophs Crawford, Shayok Plan to Transfer

PEORIA, Ill. – Bradley sophomore men’s basketball players Jalen Crawford
(Detroit, Mich./Oak Park H.S.) and Shayok Shayok (Ottawa, Ontario/St.
Patrick’s) have asked and been granted permission to transfer to other
institutions following the 2012-13 school year, second-year Braves head
    coach Geno Ford announced Tuesday.

“We appreciate the contributions both Jalen and Shayok have made to
Bradley Basketball, on the court and in the classroom, and we wish them luck
as they continue their careers,” said Ford.

A 6-foot-2 guard, Crawford was Bradley’s second-leading reserve scorer in
    2012-13, averaging 3.9 points per game with 25 3-pointers. A 6-foot-8
forward, Shayok played in all 67 games during his two-year career as part of
the frontcourt rotation, averaging 2.5 points per game as a Brave.

The Braves enjoyed one of the best turnarounds in the country this past
season, finishing the year with an 18-17 overall record after advancing to
the quarterfinals of the CollegeInsider.com Postseason Tournament.

I predict we will be hearing about a transfer - as there's one on campus right now as we speak and if he likes us - he'll commit today

the loss of Shayok & Crawford reduces Bradley's returning production to:
Walt Lemon: 15.6 ppg, 4.2 rpg, 4 apg
Tyshon Pickett: 11.0 ppg, 5.5 rpg
        Prosser: 5.5 ppg, 3.5 rpg
all other scholarship players combined: 70 total points & 41 total rebs on the season

First of all, I would like to thank Jalen and Shayok for their contributions over the last two years. To be honest, I didn't want either of them to leave, though I did anticipate it. I really liked watching them play and thought they showed potential. While I'm not thrilled they are leaving, I do look forward to seeing what players Geno can land going forward now that he has 3 scholarships (sounding like one of these might be filled soon) left to work with. I wish Jalen and Shayok the best in the future endeavors after Bradley.

There is the same or better scoring talent ready to pick up where those two left off. I just hope that NW will see some good minutes. That's my concern

Not really. Why does everyone assume that just because a player doesn't get major playing time, they are going to want to transfer? I know Nate personally, and though I haven't talked to him as much this year as last, I do know that, at least last year, he was enjoying his time at Bradley. Also, he still figures into Bradley's future. You have to remember that a lot of times 7 footers have to grow into their bodies, and he may be ready to contribute by the time he's a junior or senior.

I meant more along the lines of .... being "let go" or "released"

                    happens all the time

                    nothing against Nate....

It is not unusual to see players leave that were recruited by the former coach, like is happening at ISU and other schools.
What is unusual is to see a pattern each year where most of the previous recruiting classes of the coach that did recruit them are sent packing. Is anyone else concerned? Do we want to build a program with mostly jucos and transfers?

Not if it means going to the Final Four like WSU

That I agree with. But Marshall doesn't seem to have so many of his recruits leaving.

Geno needs to get this mess turned around a.s.a.p. If he has to do it with Jucos and transfers so be it. I could care less just get er done. Correct me if I'm wrong but so far I think we have 3 frosh coming in as of today and maybe 1 or 2 more so I don't see the problem. Can't say for sure but it appears we are getting some very good players in here like we haven't seen in a LONG time. The two leaving were the two that he brought in about a month after his hiring. Appreciate SS and JC for the 2 years they gave us. Good luck where ever your future takes you.
