I think it means just that,
IT IS HARD TO WIN ON THE ROAD, especially on the road in the Valley.
And I think it means that Evansville is a pretty good team.
They are now 6-1 in the last three weeks, with victories of 5, 14, 18, 20, 28, and 30 points. Pretty impressive indeed
Heemy-- I took the liberty of updating the title of the thread, since this is indeed a very surprising outcome.
ISU was outscored 41-14 in the 2nd half after playing even for the first half.
By the way, Evansville's Aces don't have a mascot and they don't use the playing card Aces as a theme in their logo, and apparently they do just fine.
Box score:
Matt Webster 21 pts., team shot 53.1% from the floor, and .667 from 3-pt.
ISU cold shooting at just 26.9% (14-52), Boo Richardson 0-11, Roberto Fortes 1-6, Anthony Slack only 4 pts., nobody on the team had more than 2 assists, and Boo's assist to turnover was 2/5, Dilligard's was 2/6.
Must've been a nightmare 2nd half (as in BU at Michigan State) for ISU and Porter Moser.

Here is the Pantagraph article on the game and on the coach's response,
and WARNING-- it is not for the squeamish

I heard in a postgame interview that Moser put a lot of the blame for this loss on the officials.
Note to Coach Moser: A 28 point loss is not the instance you want to play the "officials cost us the game" card. Save it for when someone might actually feel sympathetic for you.

What is the origin and meaning of the "Purple Aces" team name?

I did have to look it up, though I knew it had some kind of connection to gambling. Here is the official Wikipedia explanation--
But though they carried the nickname "Aces" since the mid 1920's, the term "Purple Aces" wasn't officially added until the 1960's to incorporate the team's color.
Here's one little twist. I don't know what part it played, if any, but the term "Purple Aces" has been around much longer than the Evansville nickname.
There was a novel written in 1933 named "The Purple Aces", about a secret plot by captured American airmen who painted their faces purple--
