    Dave Reynolds' blog:
"A tip of the hat to Northern Iowa"
Get the latest breaking news, sports, entertainment and obituaries in Peoria, IL from Peoria Journal Star.

2010, came the program’s greatest triumph –* a sweep of the MVC titles and a stunning second-round NCAA upset of No. 1-ranked Kansas....

Northern Iowa’s success should give Bradley fans hope. If a college basketball program can be built solidly at a place like Cedar Falls, Iowa, where hoops were second or third fiddle to other sports, imagine what can happen in Peoria where basketball has always been king.
    Just imagine.

Nice anthology of the Northern Iowa program. Dave suggests that maybe someday Bradley can build a winning program like UNI.
Seems like we already had a winning program.
Why the repeated efforts to erase Bradley's past successes?

The magical 2006 run was amazing, and energized everyone to a point not seen since 1982. But as a casual fan I have not viewed Bradley as a "championship" program for a long time, probably since the Anthony Parker era.

I think I speak for a lot of long time fans. Reading that blog made me think he was talking about some hapless program like Prairie View A&M that has never seen a winning program and needed the expertise of these proven successful leaders to finally lead Bradley out of the darkness. Maybe they should ask some of the thousands of fans who have disappeared why they aren't around to support Bradley anymore. Who would have ever thought we'd draw less than 2000 to a home game?
Let's stop pretending Bradley basketball just started with this present administration. And let's see some real success before we crown the current administration the saviors of BU basketball.
From PJ Star sports expert Kirk Wessler in his Jan. 10, 2012 column following 8th loss in a row at Drake-
"Yes, the Braves are better than they were when the season started two months ago. By a light year or two, they??™re better."

And from the PJ Star 4/26/12, Dave Reynolds-
"Fields and Grier both appear to be difference makers. If Bradley continues to add the right players around them, happy days may be ahead for the Braves after a long dry spell."

To me a championship season equates to winning your conference the last champioship we had was 17 Years ago ( 1996) then back another 8 years(198 kinda of a long draught 2 in the past 25 years? I would bet it won't take another 17 years until we win one just a hunch

wait - did I miss something??
Northern Iowa won some sort of championship this year?....I coulda sworn they lost their first round game in the MVC Tourney!
Even their own media called this season disappointing after they got knocked out right away and failed to even get an NIT bid.

I agree with your post and Dave's blog 110%. The 2006 run was truely magical but if memory servers me right we finished in 4th or 5th place. That my friends is not what I call a Championship program. I may not be the oldest on here but I'm close. A championship program in my mind was the late 50's early 60's under Charles "Ozzie" Osbourne and the years Dickie V spent running the program. I think we are on the right track and with a couple more good signings this Spring it maybe sooner than we thought possibly. "Get er done" Geno MOST of us on here have faith in your ability to make it happen.

In the past couple years we have seen plenty of these...
"Our program needs to be more like _____" - columns....
the blank has been alternately filled with Butler, Creighton, ISU, UNI...and a few years further back there was some saying we needed to be more like SIU, Drake....
..and the grass is always greener...and if the writers lived in those cities, they'd still find something to bellyache about...

what we need now are a few columns telling us how we to be more like Saint Louis, WIU, or FGCU...

Apparently this administration as well as reporters don't realize that a big part of why large numbers of the most loyal and dedicated fans have grown disenchanted with Bradley is this constant bashing and poor treatment of past Bradley stars and their rewriting of Bradley's history. Maybe they just don't care and think they don't need us formerly loyal fans. That would be folly. Lets see how many more season ticket buyers drop out again this year. If all this grand improvement was true, why aren't many fans buying in to it? Not even filling half of the miniature new arena was an embarassment. That alone shows how irrelevant Bradley basketball has become under this leadership.

BU was the program being written about at one time.. Not all that long ago there was a 9 year stretch where the Braves had 4 2nd place finishes and an MVC Championship.. On top of that there were 6 major post season apearances (5 NIT 1 NCAA) but the powers that be felt there was need for a change.
