I think this is very realistic, but so hard to know until everyone is done recruiting (and losing transfers). Also, sounds like Van Deest is being looked at by a lot of high majors (including Illinois).

He doesn't strike me as even half the athleticism nor ability that Marcus Arnold was and Arnold never played or contributed much (avg 2.5 ppg over two seasons) at Illinois

Depends. Allows him to get a wider variety of graduate degrees. He's got the size to play back-up minutes and may get him to the NCAA. 6'11" 270 guys who know there role is to play defense, get boards and stay in the post have a value, as they are few and far between.

I think he'd be more prepared than Sam McLauren to play backup minutes.

The only thing I added was that UC Davis did play in the 2:30 pm Pacific time game this year...familiar game time for their coach. Nothing more.

now in all fairness - just like Geno played on Thursday his first two seasons - and everyone says we have to give him a pass...
likewise when JL played on Thursday his first two seasons - maybe we oughta give him a pass too --
after that JL began working on a streak of not playing on Thursdays - until his final season when he had all the injuries and losses of his best players Taylor Brown, Sam Maniscalco, and Dodie & Will also coming off injuries that they were never the same......
