wow - the news on this changes every day and yet none of the news is coming from any official source or any source at the school.
Obviously if the jump to the Big East (Butler, CU, & Xavier) then it is because they have positioned themselves well with regards to their success, their fan base, and their name recognition.

BTW - for those who claim Creighton is getting in due only to the fact they draw over 15,000 - note that Butler never draws over 10,000 and even in a highly successful season still has games where they draw only 5500-6500.
Likewise Xavier's home attendance is roughly what BU drew every single year for a decade until the past 2-3 years.
Richmond has also been mentioned - they draw 4000-5000 frequently and average under 6000.
I think attendance is one factor, but so is location, winning record, and "intangibles"...

Creighton is getting in because of 10-12 years of continued success (11 conference championships since 2000), being a Catholic school, and playing in a large arena (filling it as of late).

Butler is getting in because of 10-12 years of continued success (10 NCAA appearances in 15 years) and the 2 Final 4 appearances. It also doesn't hurt that they're in the 26th largest media market in Indy.

of course each school has reasons they're getting in..and if Richmond, St. Louis, Dayton, and others are being mentioned - then they all have reasons as well....but if a school WANTED to get in, maybe even pleaded to get in and got denied without consideration, then they probably needed more "reasons"..
..even Gonzaga and Detroit are trying to get in by some reports - but Gonzaga will fail due to geography & Detroit has everything else going for it - big city, big TV market, Catholic, tradition, etc..except the recent success factor. (plus they gave up 63 to the Hawk)

BTW -- here's an interesting comparison of many of the relevant schools and comparisons of winning pct, RPI's, attendance, and other relevant factors, etc...
..as one can see - if BU had the numbers we had a few years ago - we'd be extremely competitive in almost every criteria that is looked at...

It's all about parlaying success into next level opportunities. Bradley hasn't been able to do that. There just hasn't been a period of sustained success that is relevant to the current mass re-alignment. During the 10 year stretch from the NIT championship to the Les and Hawkins years, there probably wasn't any interest in moving.

I agree with you - the one time we had the stretch of the best sustained success was 1980 thru 1988 - but we made a horrible move of turning on our own guy who got us the success & cutting ties with him--
........... then bringing in a poor choice...we need to get behind our guy and get a winning stretch......fill the stands, schedule up, & earn back the respect..

Creighton would be joining a group of like-minded institutions. All 10 teams in the reconstituted Big East are private schools, nine are Catholic, and all have little or no football history but share reputations for playing big-time hoops.

The move could provide advantages for Creighton in general student recruitment, increasing its profile in some of the largest media markets in the country. DePaul is in Chicago, St. John's is in New York City, and the league's annual tournament will continue to be held in New York's Madison Square Garden. Creighton draws nearly two-thirds of its students from outside Nebraska.

Just my revised thoughts on what is going to happen to BU during this realignment. Read it if you want. No real surprises..

AD Cross realizes he is in a bind. BU's athletic program is not up to competitive levels. Overall, it is improving, but slowly. We are not bottom of the barrel in all conference sports now, but have been ranging around the .500 level. A continued slow progression to the .550 / .625 range is the goal in future year 2. Cross your fingers, .650-.700 in basketball. With this, and, most importantly, comes improved attendance at men's basketball games.
Facilities are in place, so no big worries there. Sure, the practice facility would help though..

At that time, Cross has some increased bartering potential. The trickle down realignment will have occurred. Their will be openings here and there in newly designed conferences. BU stays in the MVC and sees how it plays out. Cross, the Pres., and Trustees makes their decision at year 2-3. The decision is: A move outside of the MVC to a group of academic like minded private schools that consider basketball as their key sport. The conference may be a realigned A-10, but obviously, will have a significantly East Coast slant.

I think your opinion is sound. A couple of key points: 1. Watching the current football members of the MVC to see if there is movement toward FBS football or a football dominant league. 2. The practice dome is paramount to the further development of Bradley's outdoor sports.
